Ebonite's rating system
« on: May 24, 2005, 09:00:57 AM »
I'm thinking of getting either one of these balls, Tornado Blk,Red,Org or the Black Ice.  When I looked at the specs, it says that the Tornado has a Length of 13.5, a Hook of 23 and recommended for light oil.  The black ice is 18.5 length, 22.5 hook, and recommend for medium oil.  Now is is just me or on medium oil wouldn't you want something to roll earlier and hook more, like the tornado instead of the black ice?  What's the deal?

Look at the R.G and Diff numbers.  Black Ice has a much stronger cover, thus making it more suitable for medium oil.

My teammate has a Black Ice and Cross Fire and the Cross Fire is alot stronger.  Black Ice looks great but more on the arc reaction.  The Cross Fire is strong and can be used on more wider conditions.
Don't get me wrong the Black Ice is good and even stronger than the Ice

I agree with htotheizzo.  If a company provides a rating system, you shouldn't have to look at the RG and Diff numbers.  Plus, the cover is much more important than the numbers.  Low RG and a huge diff won't mean much if the cover never grabs the lane.  If you only look at sites like this and magazines like BTM, you'll never figure out their coverstock system.  Actually I looked at Ebonite's site and it you dig around, they now have nice descriptions of their coverstocks.  It doesn't say what's on the Black Ice, though.

Maybe there rating their balls according to the series in which they are placed. Example, the Tornado hooks 23 as far as tornados go? It's still confusing. But I did notice the rg differences.
