OK, I bought an XCel Pearl, now what do I do?
« on: July 05, 2005, 03:51:21 PM »
I've got an XCel Pearl with no holes in it.  I needed to fill a hole in my arsenal and picked this up about a month ago.  My last experience with a pearl particle ball was with an X-Factor Ace, positive at that.  Drilled it 4x4 with a fourth hole, liked it, scored well, tried something else, scored better, sold Ace.  Next chapter.  I've currently got an Original Inferno and an Absolute Inferno that are "first outta the bag" with the XCel to be a ball that I can use when the heads get a little squirrely or I'm looking to tame the breakpoint from the bevy of strong reactives that I've got in the bag.  Any ideas?  This is gonna be a limited-use ball, as you're gonna have to pry the two Infernos from my cold, dead, hands.  Unless, of course, I like the Xcel better...lol!  Bowler type in profile.  Thanks!

based on the specs in your profile i wouldnt put the pin too high. if this is gonna be a conditional ball i would drill it for a conditional purpose.

i think if u put the pin on the centerline (or just to the right of the centerline) under the fingers and the bomb also on the centerline (or just to the right) stacked under the thumb, it would work good on wet/dry conditions.

mine is drilled for a strong midlane and i do like it, but sometimes it just burns up too fast. if i had the pin and bomb a little more stacked, i think it would retain a little more energy on the back.

Paul, per our conversations from a few weeks ago, simple/great minds think alike.  If I really wanted to, this could be a ball to play "up the boards" with smooth release and decent speed under most of the THS & tourney conditions around here.  My only concern on the fresh stuff would be kicking out the corners with the increased wpeed.

if its not kickin out the corners u can always take off some shine or dull the bowtie with scotchbrite.

You guys both lost me in this conversation! I thought the xcel pearl was pearl resin, not pearl particle. Pizz, Sounds like you must be talking about a particle instead of a pearl resin if it is burning up on you. Or am I just confused about what you are talking about?

Nope, I'm talkin about the pearl. Sometimes when u drill a ball for a strong midlane reaction it uses all of its energy at that point, and burns up. When it hits the pocket its usually pretty flat. You can create a diff angle by using scotchbrite on the bowtie. I'm not talkin about a 320 sanding just take off some shine.

Xcel is reactive pearl no particle load and I was told that directly by Ronald Hickland.
