Pancakes in the morning, Afternoon, and Finals!
« on: January 17, 2018, 10:43:20 AM »
So,

I am usually not a very good bowler any more.  At least in league. A Lack of speed and usually a lot of axis rotation leave me really struggling on the short low volume high friction league surfaces I am bowling on.

However travels to tournaments around our state where they are putting out higher volumes on a couple of combinations of league shots both longer and shorter has made me look like the sometimes hang with the scratch bowlers strike for strike handicap bowler I can be!

The surprising thing is lately my tournament arsenal has consisted of all things of two Ebonite Tornadoes a Solid Blue Violet/Sparkle
http://123bowl.com/bowling-balls/ebonite/blue-violet-sparkle-tornado/
Pancake with an offset puck(2004 vintage).  Label leverage drill.

Also an Ebonite Tornado Warning pearl Resin.  Pancake only.
http://123bowl.com/bowling-balls/ebonite/tornado-warning-purple-green/  (mine is actually green and purple!  Pin out of 1/2 inch right next to grip center!

In a recent tournament I was put on the lanes with many of our areas better throwers.  I was not embarressed as my Tornado Blue Violet with its high flare setup allowed me to go inside on this high volume maybe 39 foot pattern and carry with the big hands boys the first game.  A defect near the end of the game in my glue prevented me from being the high scratch and handicap game in the tourney.

Dealing with thumb insert problems all game 2. I transition to the Tornado warning pearl with a shorter semi fingertip span for game 3 and get tapped in the 10th to stop and 8 bagger playing lefty straight up the 9 board!

As I walk to the finals they inform me they have changed the qualifying to enable a low scratch out of the cut to bowl in the fith spot!  Aak!  I get it!  They need them back, ok!

Two weeks before I started out 220 220 with two opens each game again using the Tornado Blue Violet Sparkle this time on a longer shot straight up the 10 board.  Only the incorrect adjustment to stop 10 pins for this lefty kept me from being maybe the high handicap set.  Still in this team competition enjoyed my strong contribution to our 2nd place qualifying!

Lately a switch to pancake plastic has in my league has made the pocket very findable.  A bunch of months ago use of rubber fingertip ball with the cg just up from the grip center (finger weight) just missed getting me a few 300s the only leaves being 10 pins for this lefty.

The goal of this post!  For some manufacturer to realize for the slower bowlers reintroduction of pancake or pancake/puck balls would be a tremendous addition to your arsenal for many bowlers on high friction surfaces.

Though the Cyclones are great I have spoken to several pro shop operators who think these pancakes  and pancake/puck combo  balls were the cat's meow for drier conditions with some even using and loving in their own arsenals!

Ebonite...Would you consider it?  Maybe a solid Pancake/puck Tornado again?

Anyone else love them also?

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS my speed is now slowly slipping back up into the 14 range and may go higher.   A post on that soon!

RESEARCH THE SCOUTS BEFIRE YOU BUY!

The older ones have an inner puck AND a pancake. (like the tornado)
The newer ones are pancake only. (like the tornado warning)

They even had a HIGH FLARE model that had increased diff over the regular ones.

The old power grooves from Brunswick used the puck/flip block principle also. They even had a black “proactive” model that was pretty strong.

Oh yes, ty,

I have the Tornado Warning(pancake only)(not available at Ebonite any more), A Scout Solid Black(pancake only, try to find one now...I dare ya) pretty good but I need to weaken surface from it's 2000 to something, I will get back on that.

What is NOT out there is a Tornado Solid(pancake/offset puck design which is just such a great solution for me!).  Would love a backup for that beast!  I remember years ago when I was 15.5 mph at the pocket when I thought my Tornado Solid was almost as good a ball as my incredible Brunswick Demolition zone!  (Why did I get rid of that?).

My purpose in posting this was to let other bowlers know that these options were once available and no longer are, and they are Great solutions for the rev heavy slowby!  Or those who would like to play straighter down the lane!

To get a backup used would be great, what would be even better?  A revival of these great solutions by a company that once had them!  Cmon, Ebonite!

Lucklefty
PS For those who haven't seen the a pancake core in a reactive ball in a while, well you just should.

i bought a chrome/yellow Power Groove as a practice ball when i switched to 14#. The house i practiced in was old wood that chewed the balls pretty bad. it turned out to be the best third game ball I've ever had. in one season i had 6 279 games in the third game with it. i could go right when everyone else went left.
i would love to see a pancake with a puck. The core works, just need to see the right cover/friction.

No300tj,

In agreement. Do ball company reps ever get out here any more?

Mitch Beasley?

Ever again?.

Thanks,

Luckylefty...
Ps the Tornado solid was impressing them this weekend off this low average bowlers hand.
4 games lots of strikes!  Relatively speaking...

After last month being the high qualifier(handicap) with my Columbia Scout Black Reactive.

This Month(this weekend) I eeked into the semifinals and then had a little distracted last game that kept me from being high seed in the finals.  This pill actually showed me some new capabilities as it allowed me to go a little in to out and still carry throwing into the 14 at the arrows out to about 10.

I followed the really good lefties into the pocket getting a touch inside them.

Meeting in the 3rd/4th place stepladder I was pleased it put a little scare into one of the best throwers of a bowling ball I have ever seen.  Of course it was me, this ball, and my handicap.

Didn't win but saw another gear on this old time pill.  This week A Scout Reactive solid, last week a Strong Core Stong Particle cover Reaction Roll for a bunch of strikes at the end of the match.  I am going to start thinking I am almost a decent bowler thanks to these pills!  At least for the second half of the game!

A shout out to my coach this year the well revered....!

Luckylefty
