Pivot For Jr Gold help!!
« on: April 26, 2014, 04:34:42 PM »
I have a pivot but idk how to drill it out, they will be putting out a long patterns like Paris. They only use USBC Patterns and WTBA patterns. I was thinking pin down under ring finger and the CG and Mass Bias stacked out with an extra hole. Is that a strong layout for heavy oil like paris? Or a pin up CG Kicked out with a 2000 Grit on it...
And Also I'm trying to get another pivot and if I do I will have a pin up.

Pivot certainly is a strong ball. Whom ever drills your equipment would need to know a few things. Where are you located and is there a Pro Shop?

I just recently (read: past couple of weeks) picked up a Pivot. My numbers:

400-425rpm
70 degrees axis rotation
30 degrees tilt
15-17mph
PAP 5.25 over, 1.25 up.

I went with a 15.3lb Pivot, 3" pin. I drilled pin down, roughly 3/4" under the ring finger, at 60 x 5.25 x 60. Extra hole down by the MB. OOB finish.

This ball is strong. At my normal leagues under THS, I'm already starting at 26, looking at 13 at the arrows, 8 at the break point, and am adjusting by the 6th frame of the first game. It is that strong and needs oil.

On conditions where they really throw down the juice, this ball is great. Last time I was in Vegas (when I picked up the ball), they had the USBC Open pattern down for practice sessions. Team pattern had me standing roughly 5 - 8 right of where I would for THS, looking at 11 at the arrows, 9 at the breakpoint. I could miss a little bit outside and still recover, but definitely couldn't free wheel it. Minors had me about 3 left of that with feet, and target. This ball loved it.

I would say that on the fresh, pin down with this ball would be great. If you're looking at pin up, you may want to look at the Pivot Point and compare that to Pivot at 2000. The 500/1500 with polish of the Pivot Point may be closer to what you're looking for, compared to a Pivot at 2000, assuming you get the same layout on the ball.

i think you are confusing long oil with heavy oil. patterns are like paris are long but relatively light oil. both will make the ball skid but the longer pattern will hook earlier when transition starts and make the ball burn up what other balls are you bringing to jg...this will help determine layout advice as well as your release specs

the long patterns, i had better luck with higher pins and less surface
the pivot rolls a bit on the earlier side, so a lower pin is going to be even earlier.
not a bad thing, but resist to much surface.
always go to the lanes shiny, adjust from there if you have to.
Pivot is an awesome ball though, good luck
practice. practice. practice those spares. it will make a difference.
all single pins, learn to throw straight
