Playmaker ....Acting wierd
« on: August 13, 2008, 05:50:08 AM »
So about a month ago i picked up a playmaker.
it worked great. anytime i got it flush in the pocket it carried ten.  took me about two weeks to leave a 7 pin (ima lefty)
immediatley i notice this ball tracks up FAST.  so i clean it after every use.  but after about 6 weeks of use and a total 30 or so games.   it looks like it has well over 200 and looks like ****. And also it seems the more i use it the more over/under it gets.  i wouldn't call this another case of "ebonite ball death"  but, it def does not act like the day i bought it.  Im definitely  not happy. theres no reason a ball should lose its shine that fast.  is anybody else seeing anything similair with this ball?

If its not acting like it should take it to the ProShop and have them resurface it, if you still dont get the reaction you want after surfacing it (once or thrice) then get rid of it.

Its not ball death until after your attemps to save it have failed.

I've got a playmaker with about 30 games on it.

I've seen none of the problems you described.  It has tracked up some, but  after cleaning it looks just fine.

As far as it's reaction goes, if anything, it has gotten stronger, slightly earlier and smoother at the break.

What are you cleaning it with?

And are you sure it's not the lanes that have possibly changed?

do these other balls have the ebonite polish on them?

I ask because ive noticed out of the polish that I have tried the ebonite burns away quickly. but thats my own experience on non ebonite poured balls that I resurfaced myself.

Buy some resurrection and snake oil, just got these products and used them the matte ball's look amazing and roll great. The snake oil is easy to use and does not take alot, works well and the reaction is very good.

its a sugestion. the ebonite polish performs great but I feel that IMO it breaks down too fast and for me is inconsistant but ive noticed higher rev players like it much more then me.

what I would suggest is try nocking the polish off.... not firmiliar with the playmakers surface under the polish but id hit it with the appropriate grit before polish and try a different polish... you can always bring it back to OOB

hopefully that works as it makes sense if your other polished balls dont have a problem. some people just dont match up to certain surfaces.

I think that you probably just need to take it to the proshop and have them repolish it.  I don't think a complete resurface is necessary.  How fast a ball tracks up is largely an issue with the lane surface at your bowling center rather than the coverstock on the ball.

yea i agree. but that doesnt mean a certain polish wont burn off easier than others.

and I think a repolish would work but if he wanted something different the remaining polish would need to come off. but then again he might want to just keep repolishing it so he has the exact same reaction when new. just seems like a lot of work for so few games.

would hate to have a ball suck up THAT much oil in such a short time. not even my no mercy tracks up that fast or gets oil soaked but they dont give the gb rating on hammer balls.

i think ill just have it repolished with something other then ebonite powerhouse polish.  i really dont think it needs a hotwater bath and resurface after 20 or so games and me cleaning it frequently with black magic. if thats the case ill sell it first because no ball should need that kinda upkeep. and as far as they lanes go, theyre synthetic all the way down in pretty good shape (i know i just did the certification for them lol)
