Title: Replacement ball
Post by: thedjs on June 08, 2010, 07:52:22 AM
In the current lineup, what would be a good replacement for a Columbia Arch Rival?        Might also consider Track or Hammer as well.

Thanks for the help.

You may want to look into a Burst.  The RGs and diff numbers are pretty close and the price point is less than what the Rival line went for brand new.  Strength wise, they should be pretty similar as well.

I wouldn't think this would be true since the arch Rival was weaker than the Rival and the Rival was a good 6 boards weaker than the Resurgence for me. I haven't thrown much of the new stuff from Columbia but I wouldn't think the Burst would be the ball....

But the thing you have to look at, is that the OOB surface on the Resurgence was 1000 sanded.  The Burst is 4000 polished.  The surface prep in itself is roughly 6 boards right there.  The Rival was sanded and the Arch was 4000 I believe.  The Burst being 4000 polished and the RG/diff numbers being similar, I could see where it would be a good replacement.

Not true, the Arch Rival was 3-4 boards stronger than the original Rival.

The Arch Rival was cleaner thru the front part of the lane and stronger downlane when compared to the original.  Bowling on league shots can mask the cleaner thru the front part and just show the stronger downlane motion providing the illusion that it's stronger when it really isn't.

The Sharp Noize has nearly the same coverstock as the Arch Rival with a higher RG/lower differential core.  It really depends on what you liked about the Arch Rival.  If you liked the oil handling characteristics which are more cover driven, you could go with a Sharp Noize and take the cover to 4000.  If you like the shape of the shot, you might be better off looking at the raw Hammer series (probably a Burn) to get what you're looking for.  A Burst might work, but in general it roll earlier and won't flip quite as hard as the Arch Rival did.

There are a few left out there. I have 1 more undrilled in my closet. You can still get a NIB Arch Rival (Ebay, Bowlingball.com).
