RESULTS: The ONE & Hot Water Treatment
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:46:11 AM »
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know the results after I put The One in a
pale of Hot Water for 15 minutes. I have two of them, but the one I dipped
in hot water is scuffed at approximately 800 grit surface. I decided to do
this, because of its' oil absorption capabilities as advertised.

Ball had about 35-40 games on it before the treatment.

When I came back after about 15 minutes, you could see the oil floating to
the top. I removed the ball and it was pretty greasy hehe.

I dried it off with a towel and emptied the bucket. Man you could smell the
oil. I had to wash the bucket with some detergent hehe.

Results on the lanes 30 minutes later during league:
After a few shots, I noticed a considerable difference overall.
The ball was reading the mids better and I saw new life in its' backend reaction.
I noticed a lot of flare as well.

I guess it is mission accomplished. I have done the Hot water treatment with some of my other equipment and it has worked well so far.

If you are hesistant to put The One in Hot Water, I hope this report helps you in getting a better picture of what happens during this process.

Take care everyone,
Ram

I thought you had to wait at least 24 hours to roll the ball after you do the hot water treatment... is this not true? I thought I read someone that it would crack if you didnt.

Do you know if the hot water and dawn treatment will work for any reactive?

How about an old Columbia Aftershock?  I've shot a couple 300's with it and now it seems dead...

I'm thinking about buying The One and the Big One; I've been concerned about how long the coverstocks will last; if the hot water & dawn treatment brings them back to life, then that takes care of my concern.

Thanks!
Dave

It should.

So far, I see no loss in reaction with my The One.  Has now over 75 games on it.  Usually by now I'd see some reaction loss.  I use a good cleaning regimen.  I think with any new ball that's key.

Works great. I did it to my Shock Trauma, Infernos, and a Super Charge with very noticeable results to all of them.

I haven't been the best on keeping them clean; I've recently started using diluted Simple Green on my 3D Superhook and there's been a noticable difference - when I clean it before I put it away, the next time out it works very well; the one time I didn't clean it and used it the next day, it wouldn't finish nearly as hard.

I need to try the pale method on them all!  Maybe it'll revive the Big Bully as well.

Thanks!

I agree with everyone here.  My Nitro r squared still hooks very nice, been using it for 10 years, and also do it to my Roto-Grip Assault.  Usually I use Renew-It after I'm done.
I have NEVER taped the holes up on either ball when I soak them.  I usually shoot for around 120 degrees, which is just a bit hotter than tap (ours really doesn't get that hot).  Usually I go 3 tablespoons of simple green in a 1.5 qt bucket, fill it up about half way, and put the ball in holes facing down.  Also use a very light scotchbrite pad over the whole thing to remove any belt marks.  I rinse the ball, and let dry at least overnight.

I'm with sqeeds.I don't bother plugging the holes either.I just put a little dawn in the dish pan and let the hot tap water slowly drizzle over the ball until the pan is full, let it sit for 10-15 minutes and go over it with a white scuff pad.Second step is to pull it out, set it on a ball cup and let the hot water drizzle on it while wiping the ball til the water runs clean.Last step is to dry the ball then let it sit with holes down til dry.
Whole operation is 20-30 min to clean and 2-3 hours to dry.
I do this evey 30 games or so and there is never a heavy build up.
I have done this to all my equipment with no negative results.

Lefty,
All the time.I just use a soft rag instead of the scrub and re-apply polish when dry.

I did this with my Morich Onslaught (light load particle pearl cover for those who don't know), that had about 100 games on it. I needed to do a complete resurface, so a few people on here said that it's best to leave it dull when I soak the ball, so it could clean out the broken particles better. I did the hot water treatment to it (and an old Columbia300 Reaction ARC), with very mixed results. The Reaction ARC gained a lot of it's original power, while the Onslaught seemed to lose a bit of overall reaction (seemed to not read the mids as well). I decided to give it a high gloss, and have now been using it for 2nd shifts with excellent results, but am still a little saddened that it lost a bit of hook. I know that I did it correctly, because the ARC came out OK...maybe that cover on the Onslaught isn't good to do this trick with...? Any insight from anyone who has done this with an Onslaught (or other equipment with the same cover) would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, just wanted to give an update.

I gave my other The One (This one is OOB Polished)
the hot water treatment as well

It worked well and the ball is as tacky as ever!
Took it out for a spin last night at a mini-tourney
and from the looks of it, hasn't lost its' great reaction.

Thanks again guys!

That's great news.  I have tried other balls, but have been hesitant to try the BIG ONE.  I should try it, have a couple tourneys soon and wouild like the most dangerous ball possible.

When you say HOT water how hot do you mean??? I tried this on a ball a year or so ago. But i was afraid to get the water too hot? I noticed a little better reaction on the pearl reactive i did that to.

Thanks!

You can boil water, super hot and pour it into a bucket where the ball is.
Works great.
