Title: Sanding a Big One?
Post by: tvphotog on December 20, 2006, 02:56:09 AM
Has anyone brought the cover down to 1000 or 500 on a Big One. I want to get an Infinite One, but thought maybe I could change the cover on my Big One. I didn't know what the reaction would be like.

If you take a look at the first Big One that I drilled (www.proshoptraining.com), I sanded it to 500 Abralon grit once I began to throw it often.  I really really liked it in this extremely rough finish.  The ball hooked much earlier and was very good on heavier oil.

Mine is at 600 but I need to be careful that it doesnt burn up and hit flat.

the infinite one should still be stronger in heavy oil at 500 compared to the big one.  due to a stronger coverstock.  in most case's we have to bring the infinite one up to about 1000.

as for the big one,  i  would leave it at 4000,  or maybe bring it down to 2000.
but if you were thinking of getting a new infinite one, don't see the need to bring the big one all the way down to 500 or 1000.

however, if you are not going to get the infinite one,  then you should like the reaction you get on the big one at about 1000.

I'd love to get an Infinite One, but I got a no mercy instead. I need to fill a gap at the top also, but the wife limits the number of balls I can get. I thought figured that since I have a Big One, I could fill the gap with that for now. Thanks for the imput. I go ahead and try it at 1000 or 500, until I get an Infinite One or the New NV.

I really like the big one at 4000. just seems to work the best there.

I have one brought down to 2000.  And immediately I can feel a difference when the ball starts its midlane roll, the way the ball moves makes me feel there is about 10 units less of oil.  so I would suggest to do the sanding in smaller steps.

My Big One is at 1000. It's great on a THS, and I can play alot of different lines with it. I'd say give it a try, you'll love the reaction.

I've been very happy with mine at that surface, and it'll probably stay there.
