What's so great about The One???
« on: January 09, 2006, 04:29:07 PM »
Really, what is it about The One that makes it so valuable? I've never seen any other ball leave so many splits before? I had to try it for myself, and sure enough I set a personal record for splits in a game at 7. I hear people talking about how the coverstock needs to be sanded down 2000, 1000, 800, 600 even. People work and work to make this ball work for them, and then worship it after investing more time and money in it then if they were to just buy some other ball.

Bottom line its still about shot making with any ball. The big thing about the one is that its very versatile at many diffferent surfaces for alot of bowlers. Mine is at 1000abralon and factory polish. Very nice for me at that surface and the reaction I am looking for. If it doesnt work out of the box for you tweak it to make it work better for you. Every bowler is different and likes different things.

You can't please everyone but this ball has pleased the masses who have tried it so its been very successful.

If you are leaving a lot of splits with The One, then you have under estimated its reaction.  I've never seen a ball that left more splits then others.  Its up to the operator to get the ball to perform.  If you cannot do that, then its probably too much ball for you.

Like many strong asyms, the one can be drilled to snap hard.  Is this a reaction that is needed in an arsenal?  Yes.  Is this a reaction that is often utalized on conditions that don't call for it?  Also yes.  The ball, on situations where the backends are fresh can have an uncontrollable snap.  On conditions with too much carry down, the ball can skate.  oob, I like the ball on an inbetween condition, a little carrydown to keep the backend under controll, but not too much to where the ball pushes too far down lane.
This would lead one to believe that oob the ball is very condition specific.  To an extent it is, but with proper lane adjustments you can usually find an area to play to the ball's strengths.  When doing this the ball gives you well above average hit and a truly great reaction.  This is where the ball gained its popularity, on the house shot.  The measure of a ball on ths is hitting power, never mind getting to the pocket, that is the easy part, carrying every shot you deserve and a few you don't is what this ball gives you.  Then for those wanting to venture out to harder shots, sport shots even, the ball can be dulled and made predictable, but it maintains its awesome hit. For those that bowl on a tough house shot or sport shot, plan on making surface adjustments, the ball will, oob, magnify operator error and can be difficult to use on harder shots.
