Title: The Next Mission - Now NOT called the Domination
Post by: slowmo44 on January 26, 2011, 02:43:34 AM
Ebonite has posted on its Facebook page that the next Mission is having a name change - it will NOT be the Domination. WTF? If you look on their website, they are now saying Mika won the TCO with "the Mission $250K."
I guess this makes the original Dominations an instant collectors item.

That's terrible.  If I was Mika I think I would be a little embarassed....plus the new name just doesn't roll off your tongue right.  What did you throw tonight....I threw the new Mission $250K?  Just isn't a good name.  Why not call it...Mission Accomplished (I think that was already suggested in another thread) or Tour Mission or something.

Just my two cents

I don't agree with the renaming of the ball.  I was not a huge fan of the name domination (3.0 might have been better), but I think mission t.o.c, mission mika, or mission accomplished might have been better, at least I have a domination that iwll say domination and not $250K.

But in all honestly I guess it doesn't matter what the name is because as long as it rolls well and knocks down the pins that is the bottom line.  This ball is strong and rolls really well for me so i will still recommend it regardless of the name.

just my 2 cents

The Dist. already have the Domination in stock and are scheduled to start shipping it next week...

I was told they will indeed be shipping the balls they currently have with the Domination name...

And the new models will be called the Mission 250K...

This should be interesting and fun...

Too bad Ebonite didn't re name it the Mission Domination 250K...

As far as the Name of the World Beater... It got it's name because of what it was being called while still in R & D...

They were so impressed with the ball, they kept calling it a "world beater"   And the name stuck...

OMG,   you don't think they will rename it the World Beater to the Chris Barnes World Beater...

Could this be what is behind the $30 Rebate on the Domination, to get them sold before the new name is shipped? the Email I received from Ebonite said the rebate is only good until Feb 3rd and for "Pre-Orders"  on the Domination....

HEY JLS,

Yo peeps is at it again.

Now, we no longer have to wait for them to discontinue a line in a couple of weeks and flood the market with a new one,  now they just change names in midstream and keep on pumpin em out, sticking you and the distributors with now obsolete stock!

Who needs a new ball when we can just change names?

Bring THIS up at the upcoming session and see what happens.

(Yeah, I know, I'm a funny guy, right?)

Yeah, I throw AMF. What's it to ya?

No Brick,,  the rebate was out long before the name change... No one at yesterday's seminar mentioned the name change... I seriously doubt they even knew about it yesterday... Most Dist.  just got their E-mail's on this today...

So the $30 rebate should apply to either model... From what I have been told, they will ship the models in stock with the Domination name on it, until the new Mission 250K's show up...

But who knows,  that could change also if Ebonite wants to keep them off Ebay...

JLS,

I don't think it was a bad thing, nor do I think you are a bad guy. I think I've got you figured out somewhat and, like another poster I used to contest with (CRD), I think I've actually begun to like you somewhat.

You're passionate about what you do, you believe what you say, and you have the nerve to say what you believe and stand up for it. What's not to like about that?

But, now that I know where you're coming from, I'm bad to rib those that I know actually DO care about this game, and you are now on that list, whether we agree about some things or not, at least I know you care!

That's the good thing about being grown ups. You get to be who you are, I get to be who I am, and we get to decide how to associate with each other.

I think I'll take you just as you are.

I understand about the AMF thing.

It's sad because the REALLY DO make some good stuff. And I've always had good luck with them and GREAT customer service from them, so I tend to stick with them, even when things don't look so good for them at times.

I do have a couple of other pieces I use at times, I would be lying to say otherwise, but I do prefer to use them. They seem to fit my game more often than some other stuff I've tried.

I'm the ONLY person here who has more than one of them, and the other guy who has one has all but retired it.

When I shoot good, people all want to know what I was using. When I tell them, they look at me like "Wow, are they still making balls"?

Good luck with those DOMINATIONS. They do look to be pretty good, even if they are a bit "pricey".

The name was changed because Storm was going to file a lawsuit against Ebonite because Ebonite used the word Domination in the name. Ebonite decided why go to war over something as ridiculous as that, so the name was changed.

I don't think Storm like their guy getting beat 100 - 299

Talked with my pro-shop today. The reason they are changing the name is because of a lawsuit from storm. Being that STORM released a number of balls with the name "Domination." But props to EBO for hiding it behind the guise of honoring Mika. Not to take anything away from his amazing performance, great bowling Mika!

They could have change it to the 2.5 since no one will remember the 2.0

Still seems like a stretch on a lawsuit with so many companies using similar names at some point or another.

Unless Storm has a Mission Domination I would say that is a stretch on the Trademark. Since your using two different words. That would be like Hammer/EBI suing Storm if they use Burn with another name in their product line.

Say a Too Hot Burn. Or anyone using numbers since Track uses all numbers for their names.

Be good, or be good at it.

I'm surprised that Storm didn't try a lawsuit against Ebonite using Vital Energy. Storm has Virtual Energy but yet Track had Kinetic Energy. It sucks that one word will make a company sue even when the other company had no intention on a trademark infringement.

My wife wanted to get me a ball for Valentines day even though I don't have a pressing need for any new equipment right now. I asked her to get me a Mission Domination and she was going to call my pro shop soon to order it. Last night I showed her the press release on Ebonite's site about the name change and how it looks with the $250K on it, and she said it looks and sounds horrible and she doesn't want to get me it now and she'll bust on me everytime we go bowling for having it. If I really needed the ball, I'd press the issue, but in reality I don't need it and I agree that the name change is not a good move. I know people on here are going to say "who cares as long as it strikes" and I agree. However, to the casual bowler, which are the majority of bowlers (sorry guys we more serious bowlers are the minority in bowling) this is not a good marketing move. I thought the original name was awesome, and they could have picked any number of great names if the Storm lawsuit thing is true. The Mission Accomplished would have gotten my vote, and my dollars! I'll continue to stick with my original Mission, which is the greatest ball I've ever thrown .

Sir,  not to worry... Call your pro shop and simply get one on order... The first shipments of these balls will be the ones with the Domination name on them... The name change to the 250K will be put on future balls now being made...  Just about every Ebonite Dist.. has the Domination's now in stock...And they are scheduled to be released on 2-3-11...

So you should not have a problem getting one with the Domination name on it...

That is if ebonite dosnt recall prior to release date. Also if there is a lawsuit cant they even release the ball on the date set or do they have to wait till the lawsuit is over

No, they can release the ball without a problem. The issue was if they were to keep making balls with Domination on them. Once they know of the suit all of the ball already made can be introduced into the market without issue. No different than the Callaway vs. ProV1 issue.

Straight from Bob Reid. Stated they made a mistake in name research.
Was pointed out to Ebonite. They are allowed to sell exisiting Dominations, but all
newly produced will have $250K
Saw Bob, Bugsy and Szabina today in Houston.
All will remember Mika won $250,000.
Maybe now they will remember the ball as well.

God, the world(international bowling community) would never forgive ebonite for releasing a ball named "Mission Accomplished". It just brings back embarassing memories of this:

Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota, asked by reporters about the incident, called it "one of the most significant embarrassments of the entire Iraq experience so far.

"We've lost more lives since (Bush) declared victory than we lost prior to the time we declared victory. And this latest fabrication is yet another illustration of their (the Republican administration's) unwillingness to except reality."

Why not just something simple like:

 MISSION BLACK

 MISSION NOIR

 MISSION MIDNIGHT

 MISSION DARK

MISSION MUSTA ( Musta being finnish for black).

Maybe they should've changed the original to MISSION T.O.C. after Kelly winning with it?

Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota, asked by reporters about the incident, called it "one of the most significant embarrassments of the entire Iraq experience so far.

"We've lost more lives since (Bush) declared victory than we lost prior to the time we declared victory. And this latest fabrication is yet another illustration of their (the Republican administration's) unwillingness to except reality."
