Question about The One
« on: October 10, 2006, 07:04:36 AM »
I was thinking about buying The One but I have had several people tell me not to because theres a problem with the ball losing its reaction after 40 or so games. I normally wouldn't let peoples opinion sway me from something I want but all these guys are very knowledgable in bowling equipment and rely heavy on their bowling for a secondary income. I have always liked Ebonite equipment and need to buy a few bowling balls for my upcoming league schedule and tourney schedule.. Can someone pls shed some light on this for me, especially if theres a Ebonite rep on this forum?  Thanks in advance

I can only give you MY experience with the one. I absolutely loved the ball when I first got it. By far, the best ball I have ever used. Mine died a very quick death. YES, I cleaned it after every set, I wiped it between shots, I soaked it, resurfaced it, blah blah blah. Once mine was gone it was gone. And it was a matter of 5 weeks, 2 leagues/wk.

Now, I drilled one up for someone else who NEVER wiped it, never cleand it, never touched the surface of it, and it is still going after all last season (two leagues) and this year so far. He loves it. Still reacts perfectly. I cannot tell you if there are some bad ones, or SOME good ones. My experience is 50%.

Have probably 35 games on mine last year, and probably another 30 games this year and mine is still going strong. I've yet to give it a hot water bath, but clean it with Storm cleaner after every series.
I've heard of a few giving out, but the people I know that have them, haven't had a problem.

I have the ONE.  Right now it has 80+ games on it and it is still going strong.  I clean after each set with Ebonite energizer cleaner.  Hot bath after 30 or so games, touch up with Ebonite factory finish polish by hand every 12-15 games.  Ball is a bit smoother off the break but still has a strong move to pocket.

the one series along with some hammer models are probably the best selling balls on the market. those who take care of their equipment by cleaning the ball and by using the abralon pads seem to be very well satisfied.

ive had mine since the release date and never clean it, or polish it (maybe 3 times its been polished) for whatever reason it just works fine that way. i couldnt even guess how many games i have on that ball. i havent seen a decline in reaction. it just has benchmark ball written all over it.

i drilled a 2nd One about 3 months ago that i do keep shined up regularly for length purposes.

I spoke with an Ebonite rep yesterday reguarding the The One and he said that there was a problem with some of the coverstocks leaking into the core and that they stopped making The One. I was wondering if anybody can confirm this for me?
