Ebonite Demo Days Review
« on: October 14, 2006, 11:11:33 AM »
Location: Alpine Valley Lanes, Sacramento Ca
Balls Available: SR300, No Limit, One, Big One, Infinite One
Pro Shop: KPs Pro Shop

Ebonite Staffers:
Gary Hulsenburg
Leanne Barrette

I helped out my pro shop with running this event.  Unloading equipment, changing and switching out grips and slugs, etc.  But I did get to try out all of these balls except the Big One which I really didnt care for.

Lefty
Medium Revs (250-300)

SR300 (House Shot):  Didnt really care for this ball.  I was able to reach the pocket swinging from 3rd arrow to 2nd arrow, but the ball never really made a big move.  The ball hit head pin or brookly when I tried to go straight up the 5 board, so it has a little bit of kick to it.  The ball goes a little long, but not as long as the No Limit and a little more snappy than the No Limit.  Least favorite ball of the bunch.

No Limit (House Shot):  This is a very smooth ball with some length in it.  I saw folks with a lot of hand swing this across the boards on the heavy oil shot that was put down.  Able to play the same line as I did with the SR300 and hit the pocket a little light, but the move was a lot more controllable.  3-4 guys bought this ball due to its smooth controlability.  A lot easier to bowl up the 5 board with this ball.

The One (House Shot):  One of my favorite balls of the bunch.  It reminds me a lot of my Track Equation.  I was surprised to learn that this ball was 4000 grit under the polish coz, in my opinion, it made a lot stronger move to the pocket than my Black Widow which I though was supposed to be stronger.  I found the One to go as long as my Widow (at 1000 grit abralon) but a lot stronger off the dry.  The carry was impressive as well.  I stood at 30 and bowled over the 3rd arrow to the 1st arrow to hit the pocket.  I am really considering buying this ball....But....

Infinite One (House Shot):  Wow, what a versatile ball.  A lot of people say the 500 grit finish is too strong, but for a lefty with med revs, I found it to be perfect.  It started up a lot earlier than the One but made just as strong of a move to the pocket.  I had to move right and stand at the 35 board bowling over 3rd arrow to 1st arrow and at one point strung about 6-7 in a row.  Great power from this ball, although I was leaving 7 pins every now and then.

Infinite One (Heavy Oil):  The heavy oil pair had 3 layers of oil from 1 to 1.  You could definitely tell there was a lot of oil out there.  I had to play straight up the 5 board this time, but still, the ball had no problem making it back.  I had an Action Max before and that ball left 7 pins like none other.  I would highly reccomend buying an infinite one.

Overall, the Demo day was rather enjoyable.  Gary and Leanne were great advisors and helped out a lot offering some coaching and advice on how to solidify our game.  I have stayed away from Ebonite equipment due to the rumors of the balls dying so quickly, but if Ebonite has fixed that problem, I would definitely be interested in buying their equipment in the future.

Cant wait to try out an Angular One.

Hope this is informative =)

His name is Gary Hulsenburg I believe. He and Leanne are both very cool people.

Alpine bowl,I've bowled there three times and shot over 700 twice and 690 the other time.  (tournament play).

I could never use something like the Infinate One on that house, the heads are too old and feathered for me.  But I love that dry shot.

But you don't mention if you used the Big One.  Of all the One series, that's my favorite so far.  I have the Infinate One but its such an early arc-er that I need more back end.  Even though I've taken it up to 1000.

I have two Big Ones and one is drilled stacked leverage taken down to 1000 abralon dull.  And the other is drilled pin over the ring finger at box condition (which is 4000 abralong dull).  I used that pin over the ring finger for men's city (At Alpine) last season and cashed.

Gary and Leanne are also fantastic.

Themezz - Here you are starting trouble again.  Oh well, I guess that's expected from you.  It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to explain your own experiences with a couple bowling balls, or maybe you're still learning how to do that coz I have yet to see you post any.  If you have, please link me to them, I'd like to read them and see how your insight is SOOO much better than mine.  Does everyone have to be an expert to post their experiences?

JDT - What did I ever do to you?  I said "I didn't care for it," meaning, I didn't care to try it.  Never said I didn't "like" it.  It just didn't appeal to me after seeing a couple of my friends and 20 other people throw it.  What's so wrong with that?  Never said I didn't like it, just didn't care to throw it.

Atochabsh - Alpine has recently resurfaced their lanes, but the backends still fly for anyone who has a good amount of hand.  They did have a pair of lanes there that were oiled heavy for people to use the IO.  I agree, the Infinite One does start up early and even with my lower revs I had to move in a lot to keep it left.

Good post. Not sure what mezz said, hes been on ignore for a while now... I highly reccomend it

One of the complaints ive heard about the demo days is the balls dont fit well enough to be able to try them out properly, I had some odd pitches on my layout so this was a concern of mine. How did you feel in this regard?

I had a chance to go to one last month, but I just picked up a BW and really didnt have the money to buy another ball, so avoided temptation.

The fitting was odd at first.  We used really old grips for the fingers which were often a little difficult to get flush into the finger holes.  Also, there were only 4 span lengths per ball for each hand which ranged from 4"-5".  Also, the thumbs were all 1/8 reverse pitch which caused me to gutter the first couple of times throwing as it was coming off my hand a little too early (I have 0 vertical pitch).  But...you learn to cope with it and understand that its there to try so all you can do is hope to make the best of it.  I had tons of fun though =)
