Does the Raid...Suck?
« on: April 11, 2008, 02:44:47 PM »
Ok, lemme first say that I know why they are discontinuing this ball, but..nobody throws them...there are almost no posts on here about them and off the cuff I can only think of one person on TV (Mike Wolf)...and to top all that off I think there are all of...uhh...3 in my house, is it due to the popularity of of the Game Breaker? do they die? condition specific?

I don't personally have one, but my brother does and it rolls great.  Of all the ebo balls out right now, I'd only drill the gamebreaker and the raid.

Ditto... those are really the only two I cared for last year at the Demo Day I attended.

The Raid is a very nice ball. I have been throwing them since October and my average has jumped from mid 180's to high 190's.  Bowled two 700's and three 279's with it this season http://www.leaguesecretary.com/LeagueFiles.aspx?LID=28317 please see Joe Cook, team Spare Me.

Great ball, gets down the lane in heavy to dry and snaps really hard on the backend.

Thanks and yup, living here in Japan as a Japanese GS worker.  Gunny, are you a Marine?

The Raid is a great ball.  I get better in action and get away with a lot of weak shots with the Raid.

I have one customer who has bowled 2 800's, 2 300's and numerous 750+.  Another customer liked his first one so well he bought 3 more, drilled 2 of them and is holding on to the other one for future drilling.  To me this is the most underated ball.

In a word NO. The Raid is a great ball. Very versatile ball that can handle alot of conditions. The ball has good length with strong backend and good carry. More for playing up the boards and smaller swing shots. Generally not going to play the deep inside line or cover the entire lane(lower flare core). Coverstock is a solid version of the Angular One which scared some people off. As far as longevity, OOB does well. People who have dulled the coverstock down have said it obsorbs oil faster(DUH) and needs a hot water bath from time to time. Get one while you can!

Tommy Jones and Rhino Page have used the Raid on TV as well. But to me, it seems like this is what happens when Ebonite does a huge release of new stuff every once in awhile. A good ball gets left out due to another ball in the line or because it doesn't have a lot of "shelf appeal". The Raid is a boring looking ball, and if the word of mouth isn't there, it can be overlooked even though it does seem to be a very good ball.

I think the Raid is the most underrated ball in the Ebonite line.  It is all I threw this year for the most part.

If there was any Ebonite ball I would buy, it would be the Raid. The Angular One coverstock is GOLD.
