Is the Big One only really usable in the heavy stuff?
« on: March 17, 2006, 11:24:29 PM »
I ask because people keep telling me that I should pick this ball for the raffle I won, but I rarely see heavy oil.  Can you use it on a fresh, medium volume league shot?

I guess I should be more specific...by "usable," do you mean I could use the Big One almost all the time on Medium patterns, and have success?  I mean, I don't want the ball to just be usable, really, I want to be able to play my A game with it on a medium oil shot!

I would not hesitate as this ball is very versatile.  I have the One and the Big One along with many others, I am not a one brand bowler..  Through the Big One in League on a normal house shot with a little heavier oil in the fronts.  207-223-245 with 3 dumb opens. As long as you have some oil in the fronts this ball works great. The one thing I HAVE NOT SEEN is this ball burning up.  It just keeps going on the back end.  The cover is very tweakable. I thought the ONE was a great ball and it is but the Big One may even be better.  A friend bought a Scorchin Inferno and is really having problems with it running out on the back end.  The Scorchin REALLY needs oil and then it shines.  The BIG ONE will play on about everything but DRY.  Hope this helps.  Good Bowling.

all you would have to do is polish it up and it could be used all day on medium conditions..

Its the best ball out right now imo, I would not hesitate to get it..

My "A" game is a good old fashioned down and in shot.  I have medium speed and low revs, and can often be characterized as a speed dominant bowler.  My ball tracks just a couple inches from my thumb and finger holes, and I carry a 170 average in leagues but ten pins higher in the ABT.  (I still haven't figured out how to take advantage of the house shot!)  I usually start out throwing the ball straight down the boards around ten, and then move in or out depending on my reaction.  (I move further out more often than I have to move further in.)

Well, I just got mine drilled this morning and went straight to the lanes for practice. I layed mine out 4x4 with the pin above and a little right of the ring finger. They put me on the breakdown pair for the league shot. I think it was like 38ft. Medium oil with some dry outside. I was having to stand beside the ball return and swing 5th arrow to about 8-10 and it would come screaming back. I did leave 5 or 6 pocket 9 pins though. With the ball drilled 4x4 I will have to take the surface up a bit or polish some to really use it on mediums. I has backend like NO OTHER!! I drilled it strong for that reason though. I need something for heavy/medium heavy. It would probaly be perfect for your style drilled like this since you have more speed than revs.
