Has anyone ever gotten an answer (from old Fab contacts or otherwise) as to whether or not this was actually meant to be a green pearl? I ask because my gut tells me this was a blue pearl that has just really changed color a lot over the years the same way the dull blue solid hammers always did.

I dunno.. looking at the pictures in the auction, that is a definite deep emerald-type green, and nothing that looks like a discolored blue pearl. And correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears to be a Baltimore pour, right?

Yes it is most def green. I’ve tried to be objective about it and consider that it could’ve been blue and change color overtime but it just looks solid green. Thanks for keeping the discussion going I’m really intrigued by this myself

It certainly looks green. Again though, most people don't realize just how blue the dull blue solid Hammer was out of the box because so many of them greened up so much over time. If you want an example, check out the video of Del Ballard's unfortunate 10th-frame gutter ball. The blue Hammer he was using was SO much bluer than just about any dull blue I remember.

Anyhow, I don't know what to think. Obviously, we know that Hammer never released a green pearl Hammer to the public, at least not in the U.S. Could it be an overseas ball? Maybe, but I have no idea how common overseas releases were back then. It could have been a special edition ball for a certain tournament or something, but then I would've thought we would've seen/heard of them before now.

At the end of the day, my gut still tells me that it's a blue pearl that drastically changed color over the years, but we may never know. In any event, it would be fun to get it, resurface it, polish it up, and have a very unique ball sitting around.

That ball is most definitely an emerald pearl green. I have seen solid black hammers turn blueish green and blue hammers turn a greenish color over time. I would be very hard pressed to believe that a pearl blue hammer could turn emerald pearl green. It would've taken the same amount of catalyst in a solid to turn color. Not so in urethane pearls. Pearls still had a blend of polyester that made them just as susceptible to being as brittle as a poly ball.

Yes I agree with you on it definitely being green and seemingly green from the beginning. I thought about keeping it and trying to use it but I thought I would test the market first in an auction. I thought about sending a message directly to the company but they’re not even in business anymore correct?

No. Faball went out of business in... 2002 IIRC. That was when Ebonite went on a shopping spree bought the Hammer brand from Faball, then bought Columbia300; and by extension, Track.

It might, and I mean MIGHT, be one of the few that were made specially for Wayne Webb.

I have heard rumors that, back in the day when Wayne was still throwing a lot of Hammer stuff, that they made a few for him in a special run that were green, as his nickname was The Mean Green Machine (evidently, he really likes green).

NEVER heard of a green PEARL though. Thought they had all been solids…….?

Thanks for all the input. So if it’s not a Wayne Webb ball then what’s the other option? Oversees ball?? Is there any help in the serial number on the ball?
