Title: old black Hammer core?
Post by: six pack on August 03, 2008, 04:18:45 AM
I picked up an old black hammer urethane for the right price,FREE!I can't find the specs on this ball anywhere.Did Hammer use the very same core in the sling blade as the old Faball Hammer's? other then some track the ball is in good shape and drilled almost perfect for my span, new slug and grips is all I need.planning on useing it at the State tourney this year as it's allways dry wood lanes and maybe a spare ball.any info would be great.

yeah, not much oil came out so I figured it's the cover.it also has alot of friction, burned my hand on the spinner trying to polish it.almost smelled like kerosene.

came out pretty good.one nick and some pitting now filed in with polish.it was on it's way to becoming a garden gnome.

If you lok at a picture f the Purole rhino Pro core it's a copy of the Hammer core. At least that's what i was told by the Brunswick/Quantum  presenter during the first proactive seminar yars ago. According to him because Hammer had not pattented the core they copied it so the had a known quantity with their first reactive ball

Try this link.  First ball I ever owned.  Still regret giving it away to my friend.  I could still average 190 with this ball and it's 20 years old.

What you smell actually is kerosene I believe.  I heard mention of that being used in the cover composition in some way.

Well that's what it smelled like.I hope it dose'nt burn up going down the lane

six pack,
How did you like the mess that resurfacing the ball creates? Hammer used carbon black as the additive to color the urethane. The same thing tire manufactures use to color tires. The last black Hammer I resurfaced, it took me an hour to get all the carbon black off everything in my garage.

PS. Tide with bleach wouldn't clean the rags I used. Now that would have been a good test for Oxyclean.

I did the job wet so not to get dust all over the place,it was smelly though.
