Bowling Knowledge Ball Sales
« on: August 22, 2008, 04:45:23 PM »
I am attempting a new strategy for bowling ball sales. The concept is Cost + with an emphasis on quantity sales. Additionally, I will only charge my actual shipping cost and provide inexpensive drilling fees.

I dont intend to compete in quantity with Buddies online services. But I will be lower than them all. The goal is to provide the lowest cost period and provide only top quality (no factory 2nds) and service on a limited scale. Hopefully in the neighborhood of 20-30 balls per month.

My goal is not to replace my good paying job but to provide extra income for me and my son to use as entry fees for tournaments where we hope to convert  it into some profit.

So here goes:

Drilling: $15.00
Drilling with Slug and Inserts: $25.00
(I am not selling Slugs and Inserts otherwise)

1 Ball = Cost + 20%
2 or 3 Balls = Cost + 18%
4 Balls (case) = Cost + 15%
Larger Quantities Discount upon request

Here is my initial Ball Offering to test the concept:
Maker   Name               Weight Top   Pin  Cost

As you can see, some manufactures provide greater profit margins than others. If you are interested, please send email to:
BowlingKnowledge
If you want drilling services you will need to provide your spec's including your PAP and layouts.
Additionally, I will need your complete shipping address including phone to provide accurate shipping prices. I use Fedex to ship as I have a a good discount with them.

I prefer PayPal transactions.

Thanks for your consideration

This is a nice concept and I wish you the best, but why does every shop guy in the world feel they need to "give" it away? Obviously you are drilling out of your home and most likely don't have much over head.  I used to be in the ball business and I always "valued" my skill and knowledge I shared with my customers and always charged for that knowledge. I opened my doors to make a profit and not just to break even.

Good luck!

Looks like paint...not hard to remove tho. A little ascetone would do the trick.

Yeah I understand it's easy to get off, but I'm curious as to how it got on most of the balls in the same general area?

Looks more like a reflection from a computer screen to me, not paint.

After further review, I still don't think it is paint, but some kind of reflection.  It is too consistent ball to ball.  Never know till you see the ball though.

ALL BALLS are in perfect condition. The spots seen are indeed from flash flare.  I will attempt to take better pictures in the future.

As for why I want to "give things away"... I dont. I want to make any drilling charge and 15-20% of the cost of the ball. I figure that if the bottom line is I am cheaper by ~$25 per ball (with shipping) maybe I would get some business since I am new without much of a reputation. I am not trying to make anything more than a couple hundred per month. I am no threat to other online vendors as I am not taking orders and stocking (many balls) or drop shipping. I am not a threat to local shops because I am not stealing there drilling or other inventory and sales and the soft skills of a salesman and coaching.

As for my drilling skills, I can hit the lines like everyone. I am not figuring out the grip for the bowler, I am not determining axis point, I am not recommending a layout and I am not responsible for providing a certain reaction with the ball. I simply am drawing the lines where the bowlers tell me and punching some holes. And absolutely, I am drilling from my garage, not that anyone I have sold a ball to yet has asked for the service yet. So even at my prices it seems a wasted effort to offer. So yes, my overhead is nothing... albeit a lot of work answering questions.

Thanks everyone for your interest. Keep an eye on this as I update the status and add more balls when I get them in. Yes other manufacturers are coming slow but sure (they are already on order... Brunswick, Storm and Roto are next.
