$5 plus shipping special -- used 14, 15, 16 pounders...
« on: March 15, 2009, 02:33:42 PM »
All balls listed are for sale for $5 plus actual shipping to locations in the 48 continental United States. Since this is at a good price, here are the guidelines:

1. Shipping is by USPS Priority Mail Service only. I must require this since it can be picked up at my house. With prices this low, it has to be convenient for me to get them out.

2. I cannot combine shipping. I have only single-ball boxes in the house. The last time I did this, I ended up having to go out and buy boxes in a couple of different cases and won’t do that again. Hopefully, considering how cheap these things are, it won’t be that big a deal if you want more than one. Your orders will, however, be double-boxed.

3. When reading the descriptions of balls that have been plugged before, you’ll see balls listed as plugged professionally or Dascar. Dascar is a quick-plug that I use here at the house and it cures white at a durometer hardness of 75-77. It does the job I need it to do but it’s not as nice as professional, done-in-a-real-pro-shop plugging.

4. Payment is by PayPal only. Part of the reason I charge $5 is for packing materials, and part of it is for PayPal fee reimbursement. All I’m trying to do is not lose money on any of these deals. PM me for PayPal address.

5. All balls are right-handed. All have pinky finger holes drilled in them, and many of them have vent holes on the thumb. I’ll notate which ones have what.

6. All but one ball for sale this time are drilled for finger inserts. Specs on the balls are as follows: 4 1/8 cut to cut on middle, 4 1/4 on the ring. Thumb hole size varies. Most are 57/64 ovaled to 31/32 10:30 to 4:30. If finger inserts are left in the ball, they’ll be 13 and 25. Thumb pitches are 1/8 reverse and 1/8 away (left) unless otherwise noted. Finger pitches should be either 0 or 1/4 forward (if there are inserts in the ball, I won’t be able to get you an accurate measurement).

So with that, here’s what’s for sale this month:

16 POUNDS

1. AMF Bull Whip
Virtually a 5-inch pin ball. Fingers are on first drill. No weight hole. Thumb has been plugged with Dascar. Recent light resurfacing with no games on it past the resurface. Probably 30-40 games on it altogether. Ball is in very good shape except for the thumb hole, which is a little rough as it was the first plugging job I ever attempted. Good dry-lane ball or good for an AMF collector.

15 POUNDS

2. Storm X-Factor ReLoaded
Pin is about 4 inches. Ball has been plugged a couple of times. Plugging is professionally done. Recent resurface to 4000 plus Storm Reacta Shine polish. Very nice surface given the amount of game traffic I expect it has. Ball has a thumb slug. I bought this ball used and it had fairly significant game traffic when I got it, but only about 5-10 games since the resurface. I would estimate 70-100 games total on the ball. Still good for playing outside angles on dry-mediums and would be a nice ball for someone learning to throw fingertip. Has a vent hole on the thumb.

3. Storm X-Factor Friction (overseas)
This is apparently a particle pearl ball. Fingers are original drill. Thumb has been plugged a couple of times for span changes. Plugging is professionally done. Ball is currently at 2000 plus polish. This is a very aggressive ball for mediums and up. It is plum/purple/silver and doesn’t look like anything else I’ve ever seen from Storm. Probably has 40 games total on it. The ball is stamped with an “X” on the bottom and it appears to be because it is either pro-pin or pro-CG (the CG and MB marker are stamped very close together and the pin is 5-6 inches away from those marks). Strongest of the X-Factor balls I’ve thrown. No thumb vent hole. Has a weight hole.

4. Storm X-Factor XXXtreme
Moderate to heavy game traffic, but the cover is still alive. Ball has been plugged two or three times, all professionally done. Original owner had his layout scribed into the ball. Currently drilled almost pin-axis. Cover is in a dull matte finish at the moment. Good ball for speed-dominant bowlers. Ball has a thumb slug. Pin is 3-4 inches. No thumb vent hole. Has a weight hole.

5. Ebonite TPC Player
This is probably the nicest ball on the list. This was a low-traffic ball that I bought from a member here. Fingers are on first drill. Thumb has been plugged once for span/pitch change. Plugging is Dascar. Has a weight hole. Surface is in almost pristine shape. Recent resurface to 2000 plus Storm Reacta Shine, and less than 10 games on it since the resurface. Unless you see dry lanes a lot, I would recommend killing the shine. It performed a lot better as a duller-surfaced ball, but I’ve got too many other things that are similar. Pin is 2-3 inches. Thumb has a vent hole.

6. Ebonite Angular One **SOLD**
Ball had 40 games game traffic when I got it and I’ve put about 10 on it. Ball has been plugged twice. All plug work professionally done. Pin is 2-3 inches. Surface was taken to 4000 Abralon plus polish right after I got it and has less than 10 games on that surface. No thumb vent hole.

7. Lane #1 Dirty Bomb **SOLD**
Fingers are first drill. Pin is 1-2 inches, closer to 2. Thumb hole is a mess. It’s been double-slugged, but not well. The second drilling went outside the second slug and the two slugs weren’t installed at the same pitches. The whole thing needs to be drilled out and plugged, to be honest. Surface has a lot of life left, though. Ball was recently resurfaced to 2000 plus Storm Reacta Shine. Game traffic when I got it was moderate, and I’ve put about 20 games on it since the resurface. Dirty Bombs are always color bonanzas and this one is no different – it’s primarily gold and has a big chunk of green and really bright orange right on top of the ball. Cover still has a lot of life. Has a weight hole near the PAP. Thumb has a vent hole. There is a surface crack in the pin, and another crack from the pin running into the pinky hole. The two cracks do not meet. At this stage, they're still easily repairable. Inserts have been removed.

8. Hammer The Big Deal **SOLD**
Ball is first drill and still has the original owner’s specs. Biggest difference is the thumb. It’s ovaled in a big way and feels like it has some forward pitch. It has a thumb slug. Pin is 2-3 inches. Also, the ball was not drilled for finger inserts. When I got it, it appeared to have low to low-moderate game traffic. I’ve put about 10 games on it. Last 5 games came after a resurface to 2000 plus Storm Moon Shine. Seemed to work better when it was in matte finish.  This ball is more aggressive than I thought it would be. No thumb vent hole. Has a weight hole.

14 POUNDS

9. Storm Thunder
High game-traffic ball. Has so much traffic and has been resurfaced so many times that the serial number is hard to read. Ball has been plugged 2 or 3 times fully and another time or two at just the thumb. Pin is 1-2 inches. Recent resurface has the ball at 4000 plus Storm Reacta Shine (was being used for a spare ball). Despite the traffic, it will still hook a nice bit and still has that old familiar Curelyon-cover hook shape to it. No thumb vent hole.

Yikes...thanks for the note. I'll have to edit it once I get home and can access Photobucket (at work right now and can't go to that site).

I wish the Dirty Bomb didn't need soo much work.  If it was a single drill thumb I think I would jump all over it.  I don't like dealing with cracked pins

I will. I've sent a PM to the person I'm holding it for. If I don't hear from them before the weekend is over I'll get in touch with you.
