LANE CONDITION
Typical House Shot--40ft--med to heavy
USBC Open Championships
Rotogrip Challenge pattern
Variety of Sport patterns

I tried up my first BW Bite with the intention of adding med to heavy oil assy ball to my lineup.  With OOB surface, it handled oil fairly well.  I added some surface to enhance this feature.  It became my go-to ball as far as my tournament arsenal goes.  The short mb to pap position gives me a early read of the midlane and moderately smooth backend motion.  This ball works well with fresh oil and sharp backends.

I liked the 1st BW Bite so much I drilled another.  This time I wanted something alittle longer and sharper on the back.  This layout gave me exactly that.  It worked exceptionally well on our house shot towards the end of last season.  This layout revs up late in the midlane and charges on the back.

I used nothing but my BW Bites last year at the Open Championships.  My all-events score was 1960+ and I brought home over $1500 in earnings(rotogrip, brackets, tourney finishes) from the event.

Overall, the BW Bite has been a welcome addition to my arsenal.

Hammer Black Widow Bite
Weight: 15#
Top Weight: 3 oz.
Pin: 3-4"

Layout:
4 1/2" Pin Above the Ring Finger with Mass Bias @ 45 degrees. No Weight Hole.

First Impressions:
The Bite was very strong and burned up very quickly for me. I had a lot of over/under problems with this one in the beginning. The Pearl provided a better look for me comparatively to the Bite.

Overall Thoughts:
When the oil was very impressionable, the Bite reacted very well as it was suited for. Once the lanes started thinning out and the heads burnt up, the Bite was too much ball as this was where I saw the over/under very apparent. Bad when the lanes broke down, great when the lanes were slicked up!

Comparison/Contrast:

BWP vs. BWB

Bite works better on heavier oil conditions. Pearl provides better backend reaction and is cleaner through the heads. Pearl has more backend reaction and works better on medium oil conditions.

Final Thoughts:
I feel the Bite can be a great sport condition ball where oil is heavier in volume or on house conditions that tend to stack a puddle in the middle however, after the oil starts to dry up, I would put it back in the bag.

I have about 400 games on my Bite since I bought it, I heard alot of people claim how they die out, mine hasn't. This is a really good ball for medium lanes or when I'm bowling kegel patterns. My only issue with the ball is when the lane has broken down the ball tends to stick to tracks, makes it a little unreliable, other wise a great ball

stats: see profile.
style: high rev cranker, med high ball speed with the ability to cut revs and angle if needed.
ball drilling: 5" pin to pap, mb in strong position, with a low hole on val.

got this ball from a buddy who had this ball and the original widow. he didnt like the bite so he let me have it. i needed an oiler at the time, just in case i ran into some heavy stuff in tournaments. enter the widow bite.
after punching this ball out i headed to the lanes, which just happend to be freshly oiled. after a few warmups i tossed the bite. one thing i noticed is the continuation i get with this ball. this ball is extremely strong for me on ths's.with this drilling i have to cross alot of boards on a regular house shot. this ball is not bad at all, they're are just better options for me on house shots, especially with my rev rate. i tryed polishing it and i did not like the reaction i got out of it. so now it stays at 2000 with no polish. for me its too much ball for regular shots. pba shots ive used it with success are scorpion and shark. its really great for me when ive got volume up front and decent backends. i recently drilled up a virtual gravity, and comparing the two overall hook is about the same. the widow bite is a good 5-6 boards less on the back, and no where near the continuation. its a great 1-2 punch for heavier stuff for me, if the pattern is jumping on the back i use the widow bite, if im not getting a strong enough reaction with the bite i choose the vg. overall, the widow is one of the better high-end balls ive had in a long time. i dont get alot of use out of high end balls, but this one will stay in my bag for a while. id give it a 9.5 outta ten, its a great ball. strokers will find this to be a strong ball overall, and they will probably benefit from the power this ball creates. surface changes and weaker drillings will be advised. tweeners will find a ball with enough power to let them venture into cranker land. crankers will find this ball to be a little condition specific. you will need head oil, lol! if i had it to do over with, i'd have went longer on my pin to pap distance to give me more length. overall a great ball for the soup!

First game shot with this ball was a 275. Things were good for round 20 weeks of the season. Used it in 2 leagues and was carrying just over a 220 avg.  Then it DIED.  I put a lot of revs on the ball and this is the first ball in 27 years I have bowled that has died so dramatically. I pulled out an 8 year old icon 2 and it still got there from the gutter.
Put the ball in the oven at 100 degrees for 10 mins and use alcohol to wipe all the oil out and repeat that 3 or 4 times.  Brings it back to life for 30 games or so.  Don't go any hotter than 100.
Overall, when it is reacting, it rips racks like no other ball I have thrown.  Wish it didn't soak full of oil so bad though.

Ok I know you want the newest Hammer but this is a hitter.  I have had my Black Widow Bite for almost 2 years and just threw a 300 with it.  It is awesome!  After a few weeks it absorbes a little oil but is the PERFECT medium ball.  My baby is almost 2 years old and still hits like a ton of bricks. When I bought it I had it drilled max agressive.  If you can find one new and on sale GET IT!  It put my name in the paper!

got this ball from a friend who didnt like it.was to hooking for him.ball is pin next to finger mass bais strong.ball is sanded to about 800 grit.great oil ball.this thing goes wherever you want to put it.speed it up and play down and in.move left throw it tight and it will just destroy rack.used this ball at the county tourney used different ball half the first game switched shot 198 268 247 for 713.ball just rocks and rips the rack.not enough oil and you better put it away you will lose carry.the best series was thurs nite earlier this year shot 279 ringing ten pin.then shot 267 missed 10 pin should been back to back 300"s then didnt change and shot 210 for 756 i was really impressed.this ball is a keeper.my only complaint is it just soaks up some oil quick.

If you love the Black Widow Pearl, you'll love this ball. Pretty much does the same thing as the pearl, only difference is this ball is conducive to oily conditions and reads oil well. i got this ball drilled aggressive to "flip on the backend". i tried it at palace lanes here in houston on a long oil pattern and the ball hit the pocket perfectly, however, on the same day at stafford lanes on much less oily pattern, this ball kept going high no matter what adjustments i made. great ball, as long as you use it for oily conditions.

I bought this one from a friend of mine who never really used it (he had a Virtual Gravity and a C-System 2.5 in his bag, which worked out better for him). Left the layout as is - 3 inch pin, pin below ring and cg kicked out. Surface is around 1500. It's the only ball I've rolled that will allow a duller finish AND still turn a corner like nothing else. Even if you're typically a down-and-in type of bowler, it'll have you moving left and looking right!. Carry is also exceptional (both high and light hits carry pretty well). It is absolute money on a heavier oil house shot (shot some of my highest league series with it). The only negative trait it has is that it's so incredibly responsive to tilt and rotation - You absolutely need a rock solid consistent release for this ball to do the same thing twice. But then again, I suppose that's the price you pay for such power. The one thing it's taught me is to be looser with my swing and softer with my release, 'cause it doesn't need any help hooking . If you come across one used for a good price, I'd recommend buying it - it's a great all-purpose oiler.

i must retract what i said earlier about the similarities between this ball and the black widow pearl. after bowling my second in game series w/it, i find that the backend action is off of the charts compared to the pearl. the pearl has more of a true role. this one however takes off w/a violent backend (and i love it!). i'm a 176 average bowler and i hit w/a 219-190-179. i am still finding it slightly hard to control (just slightly), but when it hits the pocket it creates the greatest mixers and pin action of any ball i have ever owned.

BALL SPECS

Pin Length: 3.5"

Ball Weight: 15.4 lbs.

DRILL PATTERN

Pin to PAP: 5"

CG to PAP: 4.5"

X Hole (if there is one): None

BOWLER STYLE

Ball Speed: 15-16 mph

Track: High

SURFACE PREP

Grit: 4000 Abralon w/ Factory Finish Polish

Type: Polish

LANE CONDITION

Length: 44ft.

Volume: Heavy

Type:THS

BALL REACTION

Length: Very good length, but good in oil.

Back End: Strongest backend I've ever had.

Overall Hook: Long and strong would be the best way to describe this ball.  I had to add some polish to get it down the lane farther and tame it down a bit.

Midlane Read: Not too much.

Breakpoint Shape: Sharp, but not skid/snap

COMMENTS

Likes: Very strong backend, very good oil ball, had to add some polish to it to tame it down, hits very hard likely created by the angle of entry.  This is my only Black Widow in the series of the ball, I traded for it used, does exactly what I intended it to do, using it on a heavy volume 44ft. THS it's been my go to ball as of late.

Dislikes: OOB surface was way to strong for me, but that's why they make polish.

Overall
Came out about 3 years ago, still a nice piece, glad I picked one up on trade.
