Black Widow Nasty
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Ball NPS Score: 100.00
- Coverstock: Violent Wheel Reactive
- Color: Black/Purple/Red Sparkle All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown.
- Factory Finish: 4000 Grit Abralon
- Core: High RG Widow
- RG: 16# - 2.58 15# - 2.56 14# - 2.58 13# - 2.53 12# - 2.60
- Differential: 16# - .050 15# - .057 14# - .053 13# - .055 12# - .039
- Performance: Long with Aggressive Backend
- Recommended Lane Condition: Medium to Heavy Oil
- Description: It''''s about to get NASTY. The new Hammer Black Widow Nasty is the dirtiest ball motion yet in the Widow line. Send it wide and watch this Widow wheel back without stopping! Hammer''''s combination of a new, higher RG Widow core shape, a new Violent Wheel Reactive coverstock and the all new Cover-puck technology is going to redefine the Widow legend. Hammer''''s brand new Cover-puck technology brings this Widow back from almost anywhere. With a higher RG and higher differential core system, this Widow pushes further down the lane but keeps it coming on the backend. Just when you think she''''s about to give up the Big Wheel Reactive cover gets this Widow Nasty going on the backend. Hammer is the first brand in bowling to use Cover-puck technology and it pushes the Nasty to new ball motion that wasn''''t available with standard Widow cores. You''''ll see stronger down-lane motion with breakpoints that are easier to control when we use the Cover-puck system. We''''ve also designed our new Widow core system to not only be high in differential but a little lower in mass bias, creating a more drill-friendly bowling ball. While you should still use asymmetric drilling options with the Black Widow Nasty, the movement of the Low Mass Bias mark will not be as critical as in previous Widow intros

Now that is a black widow.

I have only owned one hammer bowling ball in my life in fact I have only thrown one hammer ball in my life. However I love C300 and pretty much all the Ebonite products but have never tried a hammer ball before, except for the one I have now. The hammer ball that I own is the black widow sting. And to tell you the truth I am not that impressed with this ball especially it's recovery to the pocket. I have tried a few things to change the reaction but no luck so far, and I thought that this was going to be my first and last hammer ball. However, my proshop had some demo balls of the new Black Widow Nasty, and I said to my self hell it is a demo ball and it doesn't cost me anything to try it what the hell I will give hammer one more try, just as long as I don't have to pay for it why not. That day I was having a problem getting a sanded ball to recover enough to knock out the 7 pin, which now you can tell I am a lefty. So I pulled out this black widow nasty which is drilled less aggressive than my Sting and Wow is all I can say. Every ball that hit any part of the pocket in that game was a strike. I had 9 out of 11 strikes that game. My friend said to me hay man you got to take that ball back that ball is to good and you are kicking our butts with it. And I said No Way Jose. This ball does exactly what it says it will do. You send it out and it finds the pocket every time. Even when I tugged a few shots it held the line and gave me a few beautiful high flush strikes. My proshop guy Tony Reyes said that the reason I am seeing such a difference in the reaction is because of the new higher RG in the ball. I went back to the sting to really see the difference and there it was again soft 7 soft 7 over and over again. I then when back to the Nasty and flush strike flush strike over and over, again. The only problem I had with the ball and you get it with every ball you buy is by the third game I was experiencing some carry down and I started to leave some 7 pins some soft and some solid. But I fixed it right away with a little more axis tilt. The Nasty is one the best balls I have thrown. It ranks right up there with my favorite ball the Complete NV in fact with a few more games it could very well surpass that ball. I can't wait until January 12 when I can buy one of these balls, it is fantastic. I would buy it now but I just don't have the money until then. Anyway fantastic job Hammer in making this ball. It is sad you really have a winner with this ball and now the widow line is over, but what more could you have done with this line anyway. This ball is Freaking Fantastic.

This ball is an equal to the Black Widow Pearl in hitting power. Get it anywhere close to the pocket and kiss the pins good bye. Surprising length and great continuous backend. This ball eats up heavy-medium conditions and carry-down does not seem to weaken it one bit. Reads the midlane well and gets into a nice roll until it's time to strike (literally) Get one and enjoy the ride. Love this ball!

After using the Nasty for two night, my early feeling is it a good ball.  Had it drilled for being very aggressive and it is, unlike a lot of postings here, I can't buy a new bowl every week, mine has to last a few years and after to non-performing balls in the Black Widow Venom and Brunswick Twisted Fury, finally a ball hooks the way it's suppose to.  I'm a 210 average and so far the only problem with the Nasty is getting a thumbhole that I don't have to put 20 pieces of tape in.  More later

got this ball drilled pin above ring finger to get length and a strong backend reaction, have played with it at box finish and also polished up a bit, the oob finish is strong but i wanted a better compliment to the sting so i put a little bit of polish on it to get a little more length, this ball still makes a pretty big move to the pocket and is consistent on all patterns ive played with it on unlike the widow pearl which i find a bit condition sensitive, it isnt the best ball for the heavy oil but if you take the surface down a bit im sure it would be more than capable. It has the reliable move that ive come to expect from the widow line and its a shame its the last in the series.

Had to put in an update on Nasty, 744 and 711 back to back series, fantastic power going into the pocket, even had the first 8 in a row in one game (left ten pin).  Had an oval thumb insert put in and now I no longer have to worry about tape.  Had the ball drilled to be very aggressive because I deal with a lot of oil.  After I couldn't do anything with the Venom, I was leary about getting a new Hammer ball, not any more.

Hammer Black Widow Nasty
Weight: 15#
Pin: 3-4"
Top Weight: 3 oz.

Layout: 55x5x60

First Impressions:

Holy cow at the backend reaction. With the amount of oil being laid down for most of the season the out of box on the NASTY was too much. A coat of Factory Finish and Delayed Reaction and you have a more smoother tamer type ball reaction. The ball still has a bit of pop despite to coatings of polish but is very admirable piece. I use this piece best when the lanes start to transition because at this point any other piece I use is over/undering and this gives me the best look playing straight due to the polish overlay on the ball.

Comparison/Contrast:

Versus the Black Widow Sting the NASTY OOB will give you more angle to the pocket while the Sting yet still angular in its own right is more of a arching angular type reaction. If you desire angle then look no further than the Black Widow Nasty!

I changed the surface to 2000 abralon, and that really leveled off the back end.  My worst animal pattern is the Viper, as most of my balls hook off the table.  With this finish on the Nasty, I led the night in league, and others came over to see what I was using.

COMMENTS

Likes: Gives me a steady read on the lanes and is easy to make adjustments with.  With my speed and lower revs, I can play this ball up the outside and get a nice controlled arc into the pocket.  With this line, I start leaving 10 pins about midway throught the 2nd frame and have to move up on the lane a bit, overall a good ball for me.

Dislikes: Coverstock needs a lot of maintenance.  Ball begins to lose reaction after 12 games, soak and clean out the oil and back to normal.
