Drilling: 5" pin to pap - Mass Bias: 60*

I drilled this ball as a last minute decision 30min before I had to leave for bowling tonight. I started the first to games with my t-road solid and started having trouble at the end of the second game. Start of the third game I made one last adjustment with the t-road, opened then put it away. Took out the Widow Pearl and ran the last 11 without ever throwing it before. This ball is suprisingly smoother than my original widow and a lot more forgiving. When I hit the dry I thought it was going to just jump up on me but it just rolled smoothly into the pocket.

Overall I would say that this ball is very strong, and amazingly controllable at the break point. It is the most controllable pearl ball that I have thrown since the Storm Agent.

Great Ball!!! Everyone should drill one of these!!!

Drilling  5 1/2" pin to PAP 75 degree layout

I am really starting to like this ball, so far I have had a 279, 299 and 300 with it. Very predictable reaction with lots of pin action. Surface is 4000 abralon with ebonite factory polish. I highly recommend getting this ball for medium to light oil.

Just bought black widow pearl and just got off a 12hr.shift and had not thrown it yet.don't know oil pattern but would call it med oil with less on 8 out.Started standing on 30 and swinging through 15 out to 10[right handed]staying behind the ball,215 game.Moved 5 boards right on approach and went down and in over 9th bd.with a little belly,245 game.stayed there for a 279 game[10 pin in the 7th].The ball gave me a 3 board zone and did not over react off the dry. What a ball,I might have to buy another.Ball has a 3pin set above ring finger,4 1/2 inches from pap and cg out rt.a little with mb half between track and val.Surface was left in box condition. You better get one.

I had the ball drilled leverage with the mass bias swing out slightly on the left of my thumbs. A little balance hole was also required.

Initially I kinda of like the ball, subsequently I kinda of find the ball rather weak to the pocket. However I realised it was my release that cause a difference in the backend.

Eventually I found that if I send the ball out with about 45 degree tilt, the ball would hit the pocket with enormous energy and there is always a messenger, head pin to sweep the entire lane. However even with the messenger there is occassional stubborn pin 8. The pin actions I received looked similar to the video demo by buddiesproshop.

I also found with the mass bias out, I hardly encounter rolling over the thumb hole. And with this drilling, I realised that if the tilt is minimum the ball would react pretty slowly and something even hardly.

The review might be too lengthy as I hardly bowl or got new equipment for the past few years. I beginning to fall in love with the game all over again.

I purchased a Black Widow Pearl about a month ago. I really love it.  First, my ball:
15 lbs 3 oz
Top Wt. 2.75 oz
Pin out 3 - 4
Drilling - pin below fingers at 5” from PAP and mass bias near the vertical axis line

I bowl on mostly mostly two different house shots: one medium and one medium to dry.  On the medium house shot the ball easily gets through the heads and has a strong but controllable move throw the pocket. I usually play 12 out to 5 and carry very well leaving virtually no ten pins.

On the medium to dry shot, usually can get one game out of it before it gets too dry and I have to put the ball back in the bag and go to my Cherry Vibe.

Great Ball.  This is my first Hammer and my Cherry Vibe is my second.  I love both balls.  I don't know why it took so long for me to try Hammer but I'm looking forward to trying another ball from Hammer in the future.

This ball changed my game completely. I purchased the Black Widow Pearl at the beginning of Sept of 07. I usually have an avg of 180 - 185. I started using this ball in my Tuesday and Saturday leagues. Well I have now a 197 avg. in the Tuesday league and a 198 avg in the Saturday league. I have 8 200 games in the Tuesday league and at least 1 every night in the Saturday league. I also bowled my first ever 700 series (717). To say the least, this ball is working great. Thanks so much!!

Picked this up to compliment my BW solid in the later games when the solid isn't getting enough length.  I drilled the pearl with the All Purpose drilling (same as my solid).  This ball definitely goes longer than my solid.  The pearl covers more boards in the last 10ft than anything I've ever thrown before. Man o Man!  When this ball is in the pocket it carries very well.  I've just been having trouble getting used the huge backend movement I get.
I hooks as much as my solid, but it's all in the last 10-15 ft. Whereas the solid is more even.  Hopefully the pearl will settle down a bit, but so far I really like this ball to compliment the solid.

Drilled My BWP up last week and figure its time to review it

Drilled the ball same as my solid black widow #1 layout pin centered above bridge with the Pin a little higher on the BWP then BW. OOB at 4000 this ball really does skid flip. It had a considerable more backend then the BW. I first tried it on a broken down THS after a league got done. I basically couldnt get enough left. I could miss right all i wanted and it would come back the only Out of Bounds was the gutter. Taming it down I took it to 2000 like my BW and it really helps it rolls more predictible but still gets the great length. I bowled last night with it and had back to back games of 266-268 with 18 in a row. I honestly can say this ball is a great piece to have in your arsenal to open up the lanes. It compliments the Black Widow very well. Thank you Hammer for putting out such a great balll.

got my BWP drilled using layout #2 on hammer's site. left in OOB condition. let me first say that im probably more a stroker than tweener. I have lower revs. MY 1st hammer ball and I am impressed. This ball hooks alot in the heavier conditions. My 1st game with it was embarrasing you know trying to figure it out but after that my games have increased 20-30 pins! The backend is agressive, yet the breakpoint is controllable and predictable using my layout. The ball hits like a train and looks awesome as well (thumbs up) Just dont use this ball in Fried up lanes it will not work well. When I tried this ball on dry, it doesnt hook much. I really cant say the pearl is a "violent" ball just yet. I plan onleaving it in OOB unless i feel i need a change. It does give some stone 9's once in a while but overall, GREAT BALL EBONITE!

Great ball!

I've just been getting back in to the game over the past 6 months, re-learning my hook.  I'm very pleased so far with the reaction of this ball (except, of course in dry conditions).  I'm a medium-rev tweener.
My average has increased rather rapidly with this ball.  I rolled a 227 last week as my first 200+ game since getting back into it.

Pro's -
Very predictable break-point
Strong arc into the pocket
Beautiful back-end and carrying power - throw it right and its a guaranteed strike.

Con's -
As expected, reactive coverstock requires a thorough cleaning after every series as this ball soaks it up.

This is definitely a MEDIUM Oil ball.  It is a spare ball on fresh/heavy oil and will hook into the next county on dry conditions.

I love the Black Widow, on my second one.  I wore out the first one, that doesn't happen too often for me, but I threw the Black Widow a lot.

I was worried about this ball being too long.  There seems to be more oil than I am used to in the Oklahoma City area, compared to Houston.  That and I bowl regionals, I didn't want this ball to be too long, too squirty.  I drilled my fav layout, pin 4 1/2 inches from my PAP with the mass bias at 45 degrees.  The pin is just below my fingers, mass bias is about 2 1/2 inches right of my thumb hole.  I had to use an extra hole, which I put 3 inches below my PAP on my VAL.  The hole is 29/32 and 3" deep.  The ball had 3 oz top weight before drilling and the pin is 3" from the CG.  The pin, cg, mass bias were/are all pretty much in line, so no surprises here.

This layout should make the ball rev up fairly soon.  I was hoping for a similar motion to my Black Widow, just sharper at the spot.  That is what I got and then some.  On mediums this ball is a monster.  It goes left really hard.  On heavy oil, it squirts some, but this ball really isn't meant for heavy oil.

I have used it on Viper on synthetics, house shot on synthetics, and house shot on wood.  The wood shot was hooking more than usual, I throw my Fury here most of the time.  But lately, the BWP has been so much better.  The Fury won't make the corner from 4th arrow.  There is enough oil in the middle, but the Fury just won't recover enough.  Flat 10 a lot.  From about the same spot on the lane and same target the BWP just crushes pins.  Hitting power may be better than the Black Widow and that is saying something for me.

On fresh/heavy oil this ball should probably stay in the bag, unless you have slow ball speed.  You could scuff the ball for use on oil, but that's not what this ball was really meant for.  The BWP is all about the mediums.  You got to have some oil, this ball is too aggressive for dry lanes, unless your ball speed is pretty high.

The Boomers are gonna love this ball, it will recover at least 2-8 boards more than the original.  With a longer layout, this ball could be awesome from 4th arrow and a little carry down, like a second shift.  The tweeners will love this ball for the sharp break point.  May be too long for fresh oil, but just great most of the time, specially on wood.

The straighter players are going to use this ball on late shifts, late in tournament blocks, or when the lanes are just about gone.  Keep it shiny, should get great length.  A little Beans Secret Sauce should do the trick.

Very good carry power, maybe better than the first.  I like the balls that try to run over the 8 pin through the pin deck, this is one of those balls.  This ball should be around for quite awhile, it is that good.

Hope this helps you!!!

I've have the pearl Widow for a while now and have shot some big scores with the ball.  I was surprised that this ball is weaker than I had thought.  I drilled the ball with the pin above fingers and the CG kicked out.  At first the ball was long and exteremly snappy.  I had a hard time controlling the break point.  I ended up using 2000 Abralon on the surface.  This took off the sheen and smoothed at the reaction.  The ball still goes long but gives me a nice arc on the backend with power.  This ball is a great compliment to the original Black Widow which I just bought.  The original has a much stronger cover and has more overall hook.  They compliment each other prefectly.

Ball 16lb 1oz with 3.25 top
Pin 3.5
Drilling pin set at reverse 45 to cg with pin set on midline just below the bridge.
Weight hole at PAP
Static Weights 1/4 finger with 3/8 positive side 1/2 top

The pearl was my first Hammer.  I've heard some good things about this ball and when I got this ball as a gift I was open to seeing just what it could do.

The ball displays good length and a strong backend charge.  I can bang X after X when I'm on the line and this ball can even hold that line longer than some others in it's class.  When the line begins to break down and it's time to move it's better to change balls than to try and find a shot with this thing.  I can move left or right and this thing will not carry a tune after mowing down racks for several frames.  My Widow displays one of the narrowest margins of use that I have ever seen in a ball I've used.

I think the ball is a very nice looking ball but looks don't make the pins fall. Otherwise I find this ball to be rather unimpressive.

Second Hammer I've ever owned, I date back to the Sledge Hammer.......  Picked up the BWP 1/18/08, bowled with it next day.  First game out of the box 265, Front nine, left light pocket 4-7-10 split, finished night out with 707, not the finish I would have liked to have but I will take it.  Ball drilled to go long and hits like a MAC Truck.  Pearlized cover stock for me is the way to go, dull sets up too quick for me, I'm not a power player just down and in .  Just like any other ball out there you still need to make the shot, can't just set it down and walk away.  This may not be my last hammer and it probably won't take so many years in between products.

Thanks Hammer and again to my pro shop, Brian Hatcher, Maximum Potential, Harbor Lanes, St. Clair Shores MI.

Due to the airlines being entirely to friendly with my Angular One I had to find something to replace it and after all of the stellar reviews I decided to give this ball a try. I have to say that either my vision needs to be checked or the people reviewing this ball in BTM and Bowlers Journal are a little "too friendly" with the people over at Hammer. This ball is an absolute POS, there are to many pearl balls that are far better at doing what this ball was supposed to. If you want something for medium lanes pick up a Cherry Vibe, it's much cheaper and a far better ball. I was severely disappoined since this core was amazing for me when I had my big blue pearl.

Personally I'd just drill up a solid black widow or bite with a very weak layout it'd probably work much better than this paper weight.
