Hammer Aggressive Reaction Technology (HART)

Hammer is very pleased to introduce the new Hammer Aggressive Reaction Technology (HART) core concept to the bowling industry. Developed by our team of design engineers, this radical new concept in bowling ball core design provides maximum performance without the need for exotic layouts and weightholes. It is that simple.

Combining the new HART core concept and Violent Response Reactive coverstock gives the bowler more aggressive hook motion and improved hitting power. This unique core concept delivers aggressive backend reaction by placing the pin at 1:30 with the HART in the track (see Drilling #1). The No Mercy is very simple to drill. For layout purposes, please use the plastic bag as a template.

An update on the No Mercy.  It's only taken a year (I bought it on the 5.5.07) to figure it out, after having mixed success with it. I usually bowl a fairly fast shot (about 2.2 seconds from release to pins) with a moderate amount of revs, and a more up the back release. It always hit hard, but didn't always hook, making it a great ball for bowling outside and fairly straight.

It has the #1 drilling, where the pin is about 4 1/8 inches from my PAP, and the first flare usually goes right through the Hart.  Went with this pin distance based on the latest No Mercy drilling sheet advice – high track/ lower revs.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn251/deanchamp/NoMercyLay-out.jpg

Following discussions on the Hammer forum, I located the Mass Bias in the ball.  As I have the #1 layout for a high track bowler, and with the Mass Bias 6 3/4" around from the HART and pin, this would give me about a 25 degree layout. Now the 25 degree layout is designed to have a smooth change of direction and a mild arc to the pocket, for when the lanes are slick in front and very dry in back (courtesy of Denny Torgerson), yet the Hammer drill sheet says length with an aggressive backend.

Considering this, I decided to drop my speed a bit and put more side roll on the release, so it wouldn't get into a fwd roll as quickly due to my usual release. Also resurfaced it back to the 4000 grit abralon.

All I can say is WOW! This ball has finally, finally showed me its true potential.

In the last week i have bowled my first 300 with it, and last night my highest series of 792 (278, 258, 256) with all 36 shots in the pocket. Just left a few 9 pins and 10 pins, and missed a 10 pin by a bees dick in the last game to just fall short of my first 800 series. [Would have been a 900 series for 9 no-tap though lol]. Only had to move a few boards to the left all night, where the No Mercy was clean through the heads, then read the lane beautifully for a consistent reaction.

The difference now that i have observed is that it actually hooks off the breakpoint, with a hard arc, then gets into its heavy roll further down the lane than it did previously, hitting the pins with a higher entry angle and with more retained energy. It doesn't seem to be flaring any more or less than it was, just reading the lane better.

Having unlocked the mystery that was the No Mercy for me, I can see many more high scores on the way with this absolutely awesome ball.

This ball leaves more nine pin taps the any ball I have ever thrown. I will at least get three taps per game. This ball has cost me money in league brackets.

I bowl on my No Mercy last night, after giving it a rest for a month and I bowled a 286 on the last game of the night.  I was establishing my average in league, because I got pick up for another bowler and dam if I didn't find the zone in the middle of the second game to get me 200.  First game was bowled with another ball that I will not mention.... 157..

End up with 643 series

I love this ball

Modified layout number 1...dropped the pin down 1/2" and right 1/2"
Right handed: 18 mph, power stroker.

I went with this layout to compare to the first NM I had.  truth be told I hated it.  I think that the layout had the ball going just too long for my liking and it seemed condition specific.

With that said, ball #2 with the modified layout, if these two balls didn't have the same name I would say they didn't have anything in common.  Relatively clean through the front and hard off the spot.  NOT SNAPPY, just hard.  Unlike the first ball I can trust this one, when things are wet I can square up and play inside the track area with out worrying about overreaction.  When it's gone I have to play deep I can go all the way out to 25 to 10 and carry the pocket pretty well.  It really amazes me the versatility of this ball.

Ball #1, not what Hammer had in mind.
Ball #2, THIS IS WHAT ALL THE HYPE WAS ABOUT.

Nothing hit's like a hammer, "I attest to that!"

ok, well i personally have owned my no mercy for coming up on about 1.5 yrs and in all honesty, i wasn't as pleased with the ball as i was hoping. initially, it was a fairly nice ball, but it didn't last too long

i cant tell you the drill i had, lane conditions were a typical house. nothing fancy.

i personally don't recomend the ball, i switched to the virtual gravity shortly after getting it.

I also had this ball for a year and that was it because the cover stock burnt up. I bowled good with it but when the coverstock burned up it was done. Hammer in my opinion sucks.

WOW...lots of negative posts regarding this ball as of late.....this is my second post on this ball (original was on 11/21/2006) and I'll say that my No Mercy is still the KILLER that it was when it was new.  If any of you just use your equipment and then just throw it in the bag and go home.......that's the problem!  Proper maintenance is key to maintaining the original ball reaction.  I clean all the balls I use right after I'm done bowling.

My No Mercy is 16 lbs and drilled with the standard #1 (Label) layout for maximum reaction.  I altered the coverstock with a 2000 Abralon pad and polished it with 3M Finess-It (an automotive polish that works great on bowling balls)  On medium to oily conditions, nothing I have in my bag revs up like my No Mercy!  AND....just so you guys know, I'm not a "Hammer-Head" or anything like that....I own my own Pro Shop and like to try new stuff.  The No Mercy is the only Hammer ball in my arsenal and is one of my favorite balls even though I mainly throw Lane #1 now.

Just thought I'd throw in a follow-up review.  Best of luck to all.....
Happy Holidays!

***UPDATE*** finally got the ball to a legal weight limit today at the shop and me and my driller decided it was a great ball, and wanted to see how it would stack up with a 2000 abralon surface, and it tamed down the reaction, and rolled stronger than before. threw it in league on a fresh shot and dominated with it the first two games shooting a 213 and 258, inside, outside, this ball still screams toward the pocket. nothing can stop this hammer.

ive read and heard all the hype of this ball, and ive liked what ive seen, read and heard, so i got one. after getting the coverstock back to normal, me and my new ball driller threw the hart crap out the window. we found the true mass bias, and threw a dual angle drill on the ball. according to morich, the combined number of the angles should not be under 30*. mine is at 20* with angles of 10* pin layout of 3in and 2nd angle of 10*. the pin ended up in my middle finger and the hart on my midline left of my span(im a righty) we didnt know exactly what this ball would do, but boy did we find out! it gets 30-35 feet down lane and hooks.im sorry...it doesnt hook, it revs hard hooks like the jolly green giant kicked it and it rolled amazingly well from any angle. this was a shot a played with a laydown of 35-40, out to 2-3 releasing the ball at about 15mph. so its a very very strong ball. and i was able to use any part of the lane by simply changing hand positions. havent thrown it in league yet, but i will tomorrow night so i will post a follow up review.

thanx for reading

This was a great ball after I got it polished.  The main problem was keeping it clean, it soaks up oil and it's hard to keep the coverstock clean.
My average jumped 10 pins with this ball from 208 to 218

I have about 200 games on my Hammer No Mercy with no noticeable change in reaction from the day I bought it.  I’ve have not sanded or polished it, but I have learned I get a much better ball reaction when I clean it after every use because it soaks up so much oil.  If I play an inside line, the ball holds.  If I throw it outside, it hooks back on typical house conditions.  I’ve rolled a 700 series in each of the past 4 weeks with this ball.

I loved my Hammer No Mercy! Until it got completely soaked with oil. It was my fault for not cleaning it properly. I had this ball resurfaced twice, and sanded down. However, no matter what i tried this ball is nowhere near when i first got it. My average went from a 194 to a 206 with this ball. I would highly recommend it, but i would also highly recommend good cleaning products.
