- Description: There''''s nothing safe about the Acid Raw Hammer. Made with our Max-Hook Reactive coverstock and Raw Hammer Assault core, we''''ve designed it to be dangerous from the outside in a scary combination of power and control you won''''t find in any other mid-level ball. The Raw Hammer Acid. Let the pins burn.
The Raw Hammer Acid fills in a huge performance gap in our popular mid-price series. With the Anger, Hammer bowlers had a great reaction for heavier oil lane conditions. Psycho filled our medium to medium-dry condition needs. But there was a great amount of separation between these two balls. With the introduction of the Acid, we have an outstanding product that fits right in between these two balls and gives bowlers an excellent combination of control and backend power. Acid uses our Raw Hammer Assault core, along with our Max-Hook Reactive coverstock to create a combination of power and control that is simply not found in other mid-price balls. Bowlers will find the Acid to be longer through the front of the lane than the Anger, with more backend power and continuation than the Psycho. The total hook of the Acid is 3-4 boards more than this year’s introduction, the Psycho.

Got mine as a Christmas present this year and it fits perfectly under my psycho. In comparison to my psycho it goes much longer and doesen't react as much when it encounters friction. On the heavier patters it struggles unless I take down the cover which I dont plan on doing, besides thats what the VG is for. My Acid is stronger than my T-Road Pearl but weaker than my Psycho, not a bad fit in my opinion. If you were a fan of the Anger (which I was not) or a fan of the Psycho (which I am ) then the Acid is a great ball to have. Heres to melting the pins away!

I have now put a few games on the Acid in a few houses, so I thought I'd share my opinions.  I drilled it stacked leverage, and have found on my easy house shot on Friday nights, I can only use it for about the first game, and I will usually have a nice look with it that first game, but after that, it will either start hooking too soon, or lose carry power.  I also started a tournament on Viper pattern with it, and it had a better look than most of my other equipment, and finished very nicely on the backend, carry was very good with it on this pattern.  I see this ball has having more oveerall hook than the Psycho, or Venom as it's a little bit sooner, and a little bit more of an arcing backend than those other balls.  Not quite as much hook as the Anger, but definitely a great ball for me to start most PBA shots with, or use to open up the lane with on a house shot.  Nice combination of the Anger and Psycho with this ball, and another real winner from Hammer.

A really nice piece from Hammer.  I just bought an Acid on Friday and shot my first 700 series of the season. I bowl on a medium shot that my Doom goes a tad too long and my Cell is just too much. The Acid has a heavy arc to the pocket and the carry is phenomenal. I only had one 10 pin the entire night.
I have mine drilled with the pin above the bridge and the cg in my palm giving me good length and strong reaction off the break point. I tend to swing the ball from 15 to 5 I haven't move inside with it yet.

label drilling cg in palm pin out
15mph med rev's
surfaces tried oob,4000 and 2000 polished
lanes used on old and new synthetic, wood

ok now that i've got quite a few games in and tried it dull and polished on a couple different houses i can honestly say this ball is quickly becoming my favorite its very clean threw the heads but was a little to early but added a touch of moonshine with a 4000 surface and this ball is very forgiving it gives me the couple board room for error that the crankers get and the carry is great with the occasional ringing 10 and high 9's. The thing i like is it doesn't make the big move when the lanes break down for me i notice the slight changes better on this ball than any other i've thrown. In my opinion this ball is very overlooked much like the anger but a great ball

Layout 5 x 5

For me the Acid is a great benchmark ball.  Many times it is the first ball out of the bag to give me an idea of the pattern.  This ball is definitely a sleeper.  It has a tremendous read of the midlane and doesn't go sideways off the spot.  I have tried it polished and it gives you a couple of extra feet of length but still doesn't come off the spot really hard.  Great ball if you are facing an over/under condition. If you are looking for a benchmark ball that will read the midlane and have an arcy backend look no further.

Layout - 5 x 3 pin down with a low hole
Surfaces used - box, 1000, 2000, 4000, 2000 polish, 4000 polish, 500/4000

If I had to describe this ball in one word, it would be "smooth." On most lane conditions in box finish it gets down the lane easily. In all but the heaviest of oil it reads the pattern early, but doesnt over react. the overall reaction is best described as a "power arc." There is a definite midlane move but only a small amount of shift at the dry.. but with the amount of hook youre getting by the time youre downlane thats all you need to get that extra drive through the pocket.
The ball hooks a ton, but its decieving given the reaction shape down lane. Given the long "breakpoint" you have a ton of area to miss and still leave a makeable spare. For a dull ball it has a pretty good amount of hold when you pull it and miss inside.

other finishes affect the reaction dramatically. with the duller finishes the ball just gets more arcy.. overall hook is about the same. with polish added it starts to push a little bit... still is pretty smooth but with a much more pronounced move downlane. polish basically shortens the break point length on this ball.

Overall the Acid is a great ball and is usually the first one out of my bag. Its very easy to control and its smooth reaction leads to an easy read of the lane conditions. Just like any dull ball though it does require regular maintainance and cleaning to keep the surface dull and performing well.

Hammer RAW HAMMER ACID
Weight: 15#
Pin: 3-4"
Top Weight: 3.75 oz.

Layout: 4 3/4" Pin Above the Ring Finger. CG slightly kicked. No Weight Hole needed. Before drilling, polished ball with Factory Finish.

Lane Surface: AMF HPL Synthetics

First Impression: Ball was very aggressive even with the polish added to the cover. Did not over react on dry and gave me a nice smooth aggressive arc motion towards the pocket.

Overall Thoughts: The ACID is an excellent performance ball with a smaller price tag. This can be used as a benchmark ball in any arsenal.

Comparison/Contrast: ACID vs. PSYCHO - Even in its polished state, the ACID has more overall hook. While the PSYCHO pushes further down the lane and has more continuation, the ACID starts to read the pattern sooner but has a more aggressive arc than the PSYCHO. The ACID being polished would be a step down from the HOT SAUCE and more than a PSYCHO for me.

Conclusion: I have drilled a few of these for customers and kept the ball OOB dull at 4000 and saw very aggressive movement, the ball is definitely a strong under rated piece in my opinion. With it polished, it pushes a few feet further down and gives a smooth but aggressive arc on the backend. The ACID is not a flippy ball but can give a good read through the heads with predictability as it retains to overall hook. I feel strokers needing a heavy oil to heavy medium ball that lack revs and need coverstock help would benefit tremendously using an ACID. Overall, I am very impressed with the ACID.

Mine is drilled with the pin a couple of inches to the right of the fingertips as shown on the drill sheet for a nice arcing motion on medium conditions and it does just that with strong continuation through the pins and a very good recovery from the outside boards. I find its got great recovery on old wooden lanes and is also pretty good on synthetics too.

Picked this ball up off of e-bay. Re-drilled pin below bridge, cg below ring finger. Threw this ball for the first time, threw oh THS. Reaction was very skid/flippy. Had to keep moving left to keep the ball from checking up too soon. The ball is currently at 1000 grit abralon. I am very impressed with the ball reaction, I totally did not expect this kind of reaction from this ball. Went plus 80 for 2 games with the ball. I do not have a lot of hand, this ball is going to allow me to perform better on higher volumed shots. Thanks Hammer!

Drilled a 6 x 4, pin under the middle finger to create a strong smooth roller.  This ball is very predictable on all conditions, especially the tougher Sport or PBA Challenge patterns.  When the lanes are fresh I can play the track area with the boards and when they break down or open up, I can get in and wheel it a little without losing the carry.  Great medium reacting ball.
