Hammer Arsenal
« on: November 02, 2007, 01:48:29 AM »
I thought Nicanor brought up an interesting topic. I am kindof looking at a hammer arsenal. I am looking at the Anger, Orignal BW, BW pearl and CV. Was wondering if this would be a good arsenal for tournments to cover flood to dry. Also, how are these balls on carrydown? Stats are in profile

The only ball in the Hammer line that I dont have right now is the NMB. And that will change soon. I would sugggest the Doom instead of the BWP. The BWP is too sensitive to carry down, and on difficult patterns it can be a bit touchy.

The Anger is going to be the most useable.  It will excel on a lot of different patterns.

The BW solid maybe a little hard to control on a lot of tourney patterns.  Most of the tourney's i've bowled on have really dry back ends.  The BW may be hard to control on really dry back ends.  Still probably a good ball to have just to give you a different look on the lanes.

The BWP is a big back end ball.  I'm not sure this is the best ball for tourney/tough patterns.  I think the DOOM would be a better choice simply because of the control factor.  Plus not many bowling balls can compete with the DOOM in the carry department.  This ball just flat out carry's the rack!

The Cherry Vibe is probably a good choice for those drier conditions that you see in tourney's.  This ball has a lot of length!  Good ball for playing deep in those later blocks.  The DOOM may be able to cover a lot of the same patterns the CV can.  I personally like having a urethane ball in this spot.  I have bowled on some really dried out patterns in some tourney's and my urethane scout was a huge help!

Carry down is going to affect most bowling balls.  I have yet to find any pearl ball that does well on carry down.  If you know of a pearl ball that excels on carry down and doesn't slide thru it let me know.

The only bowling balls that have a shot at eating thru carry down are solid or particle covered balls.  I know of 1 ball that's head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to eating thru carry down and that's the original NO MERCY.  The NO MERCY will eat thru carry down like it's not even present.

Thanks Chi town and bluer pilot. That is exactly the info I was looking for. I may have to rethink what I am going to do. I have learned in bowling tournies, that big hook is not always the way to go.
