anyone buying the Black Vibe?
« on: May 26, 2009, 06:57:12 AM »
Im picking up the new Black Vibe on Thursday along with a Blue Vibe I bought from buddiesproshop.com

Both Vibes will be drilled with the same exact layout (pin above bridge 5.5" from pap, cg kicked right and no balance hole).  I will compare the two and give a mini review.

Anyone else picking up a Black Vibe?

If the Black Vibe gives half the performance of the Blue Vibe, then it's going to be an awesome bowling ball.

I am going to pick one up when they come out. Never owned any of the Vibes but have owned other Hammer balls and they are great so I am sure this one will be too.

I'm interested in the Onyx Vibe.  I had the Blue a couple years ago, and sold it.  Wish I still had it, the Blue Vibe was awesome.

Emerald and Cherry Vibes are pearl balls (from what I've seen the Emerald is a little more skid/flip than the cherry, but I've only seen one guy throw both). The Blue (discontinued) and Onyx Vibes are polished solids, but I've obviously never seen anyone throw an onyx Vibe so I can't compare them. The Blue Vibe was a good amount earlier and smoother than the Emerald/Cherry.

Can't wait for your review chitown, I hope the Onyx is comparable to the Blue as my friend has been wanting a Blue for a while but didn't want to buy it online.

A little off subject, but why do a lot of the online pro-shops list these as Ebonite Onyx Vibe, instead of Hammer Onyx Vibe. And yes I do relize that Ebonite owns Hammer, but still.

I bought two NIB Blue Vibes from Buddies pro shop a couple weeks ago.  I have one at the shop drilled waiting for me to pick up and the other is being saved.  I called my pro-shop guy today and ordered the Black Vibe today.  I'm picking up both Vibes on Thursday and will let you know how they compare.  Both balls will have the same exact layout so I should get a good comparison.

I'll be picking up an Onyx Vibe at some point this summer. Last week I had a chance to speak with Jeff U about the Onyx and he told me to expect a similiar ball motion but a few more boards in overall hook. The cover is stronger than the BV.

The Vibe Onyx is stronger than any of the others with a smoother back end reaction. The Emerald was a lil longer and stronger than the ones before. There is a diiference in the coverstocks but you dont want to drill them the same reguardless, unless you bowl on sport or pba patterns because they will all react so similar that you wont hardly notice the difference.

im not sure if i like that hammer is making each vibe stronger and stronger. pretty soon there wont be a difference between them and the raw hammers or BWs. especially on house shots

I understand what your saying.  However, I have had my best success drilling most of my equipment with the same layout.  I let the different covers and cores separate the reactions.  I also bowl on tough lane patterns during the regular league season so the differences between bowling balls are magnified.

One of the best two ball combination i've ever had was 2 blue vibes drilled with the exact same layout, one was dulled to 1000 grit and the other polished.  I could find a nice line on just about any pattern I faced with these two Blue Vibes.

I would love to know how the Onyx Vibe compares to the Cell Pearl. The Cell Pearl should be stronger but I can always drill the Vibe stronger and put more surface.

I want a ball to go under my Solid Cell. The Cell Pearl should be ideal but since the Blue Vibe worked very good for me I am willing to give the Onyx a try. My Blue Vibe hit and carried even better than the Cell although the Cell's more forgiving. Out of the box the Blue Vibe with the polished 4000 surface was touchy until after a few games.......

Your in luck.  I have a Cell Pearl with the pin above the bridge 5.5" from pap and MB kicked a couple inches right of thumb and no balance hole.  My Black Vibe will have the same layout except for the fact it's symmetrical vs asymmetrical.  I will let you know how they compare.
