Title: Ball Cleaners
Post by: Beano on November 09, 2006, 02:26:54 PM
G'day All

I'm an Aussie and i wanted to know what you are using to clean your balls with.  i have a Doom and Pain (with a Black Widow on the way), and have been using the Ebonite Energizer Cleaner as rec. by the Hammer website.  Problem is the citrus base triggers my wife's migranes, plus i've run out and was curious as to what you people are using to maintain your Hammer's reaction and prolong coverstock life.

Any advice would be great!

I've been using Storm Xtra-Clean and/or Reacta-clean after each set and it seems to work well.

I use ebonites energizer cleaner.  This cleaner works great.  If your wife can't handle the citus smell then clean your ball outside.  That would elminate the Migranes that your wife gets.

An important side note:  Pearl reactive balls such as the Doom need to be re-polished on a consistant basis.  Ebonites factory finish polish is what the Doom needs to keep it in BOX condition.  This is the same polish they use on this ball when it comes from the factory.  This will help maintain the OOB reaction.

The Pain is at 4000 grit in it's box condition.  So once in a while it would be a good idea to have it sanded with a 4000 grit abralon pad to keep it in box condition.

I hope this helps you out bud.

thanks for the advice, and might see if i can find some of those cleaners.  i have been cleaning my balls outside, but the Melbourne weather doesn't always make it a pleasant experience.

i've been polishing the doom every month or so and it is an excellent ball for me, but i thought the Pain was 2000 grit oob.

The Pain is 4000 Abralon.

Virtually all the commercial cleaners have a fairly strong odor that can cause problems if inhaled (Lane Masters being the worst by far). I found the Ebonite Energizer to be one of the more respiratory friendly cleaners but then your wife is dealing with migraines which is a whole different story.

Have you tried using Isopropyl Alcohol as your regular cleaner and then giving them a more occasional thorough cleaning with a commercial product?

I just mixed up a home made concoction using an orange/citrus based cleaner, denatured alcohol and a secret ingrediant that I believe Lane Masters uses in their product. I figured it costs me about $5 for 24 ounces and seems to be working well thus far. The orange cleaner seems to tone down the vapors of the more caustic ingrediants.

One other work around might be to have your wife wear a 3M N95 mask while you do your cleanings....the trade off being you might find yourself sleeping on the couch....ouch!

i may be missing something, but this is the info from the Hammer website:

RAW HAMMER PAIN
Coverstock:  Juiced Reactive
Factory Finish:  2000 Grit Abralon Sanded

http://www.hammerbowling.com/tech_info/info.php

seems like the Track cleaners are getting the thumbs up, so might give them a try if i can locate them.
