Please note comtns32's initial statement: "just getting into bowling".

I think you guys might want to reconsider your replies. I'd be inclined to suggest he visit a good local pro shop (found by asking several of the good local bowlers for recommendations) and then asking them to suggest a good MILD solid resin, which should be inexpensive.

i would highly recommend the columbia wicked . . . there are two different balls out now, and either is good.  this ball is polished, but will still hook on most normal oil conditions.  this is a medium priced ball.

my recommendation is primarily because of the core of the ball.  i think it's the hardest hitting core in the columbia line.  the coverstock is also good, and can be adjusted easily by sanding/polishing.

i've bought alot of balls over the past 2 years . . . my favorites are columbia and lane #1.  i just can't get excited over ebonite . . . track and strom are o.k.  brunswick and amf are "blah" . . . although brunswick's inferno has been a hot ball this year.

best of luck, and enjoy the sport!!
