hammer onyx damage help needed
« on: July 12, 2009, 02:56:28 AM »
Just bought the hammer black onyx had it for a week. While practiceing
with it the lane broke down and in the process it put a 4 inch grove about a 1/8inch deep. The first 3 games I bowled I averaged 243. The house said they would fix it but I tried 2 more games with it after that and bowled 268 and 237. What i am worred about is will it afect the reaction of the ball if it is fixed do to being so close to my track area?

I'd say, if it's not in your track area and you still love how it rolls, don't fix it. I just like fixing ugly stuff like that if I still want the ball to look pretty haha. It's your call.

BTW, if you fix it and it's not in your track, as long as they don't change the surface at some really low grit, i'm sure you'll still love it.

I know that you don't like the idea of having a practically new ball with such a blemish on it, but most times these blemishes really don't alter performance all that much.

You bowling two more games after the scratch and shooting 268-237 show me that it really didn't effect much change on the ball, or it's reaction.

Unless the scratch is directly affecting the roll of the ball, I don't think I would worry about it. Having the shop "fix" it might hurt the ball worse than the scratch does, dependng onhow they "fix" it.

I think the house should be willing to replace the ball. It was their machinery and lack of regular maintenance that caused the damage.

its cosmetic, it sucks but you should probably just leave it or wait until you want the ball resurfaced to have it fixed. asking the house to replace it is a bit much.

I don't think its a bit much for something that severe, I defiantly mention it.
