Hammer Newbie.....
« on: January 14, 2005, 09:19:02 AM »
Just Purchased the Blig blue Pearl and Spare combo. This
is the first Hammer i have tried since Ebonite took over.

What would be good balls to go above and below the big blue?

I was thinking of trying the Big Block Diesel and the Switch Blade.

Give me your advice hammer fans...

The Big Block Diesel is a low RG with a high diff. ball.  This is a great ball of you can alter the surface to match the lane conditions.  It's clean through the heads with a consistant backend.  Because of the low RG and high diff. the ball can go coast to coast.  A must for a serious bowler.
The Switch Blade is a earlier in the heads and smoother on the backend.  Great ball below your Big Blue Pearl.
Hammer released the Real Deal which is "hook in a box".  Real Deal is a step above in performance of the Big Blue.  Even polished the Real Deal is a strong ball.  Currently it's a very popular ball becuase of it flat our performs.

I had to say negative things about any bowling ball.  I love Hammer balls but Big Block Diesel will die after some games.  It was a great ball for about 50 games for me.  The ball hits really hard and it needs a little dry area to shine.  I would rather see you in a Real Deal.

I have not seen this from my Big Block Diesel.  I have mine from the ABC Nationals in May 2004. I even changed the surface a number of time to match the different tournament patterns.  If the surface of your BB Diesel is dull maybe the ball absorbed too much oil.  If factory polished I can't see the ball absorbing that much oil to change the performance of the ball.
If it did loose some of the performance try Ebonite Hook Again.

Both of those balls would fit below it in my experience.  My big block went really long with little arc on backend and my switch blade was just a little less than my original blade reactive.  To go both of those balls are excellent choices below but to go above it i would go with the reall deal.

RevLefty: You think both of these balls would fit under my big blue pearl.

So it would be somethign like this:

Real Deal
Big Blue Pearl
Big Block Diesel
Switch Blade
Big Blue Spare

You said the Big Block Diesel goes long and arcs. Is it continuous through the pins or is it more a hook arc set ball?

How many boards less is the switch blade compared to the BBD?

Here is a good Line up.

The Real Deal - overall powerful
Saw Blade - pearlized real deal for a great deal
Big Block
Sharp Blade
Switch Blade
Big Blue Spare

To comment on what ball would be good above the BBP, I would have to say The Real Deal is well above, and the Switch Blade would be my below pic.

The switch blade will plow through fairly med-dry heads. This ball goes long and still reacts strong on the backend. One thing about it is that it doesn't over react. Not a real good bowl in hev-med oil unless your playing the track or have super hand. It hits very hard and a good ball for the money.

Would the blade reactive be a good complement to the BBP?

It would be a good idea to have a reactive ball in your bag.  Blade reactive, Switch Blade or the Big Block Diesel would be good choice.  Don't be fooled by the high polish on the BB Diesel, scuff the flares and you 'll see how strong this ball really is.
