Doom for me?
« on: May 30, 2006, 08:31:18 AM »
Any thoughts on what a Doom would do in the hands of a low rev stroker? Could I possibly get a skid/flip reaction with it? I have all of my stats in my profile.

well honestly it will be really hard to get a skid flip reaction out of any stroker/ low rev player but the doom may work for you and its very versitale

Most symmetric stuff I had in the past had been skid flippy (Vendetta pin over bridge, Thing 3 3/8). Right now I have nothing symmetric or that gives me that 'boom' on the backend.

Hey JJ I am a stroker with a high track and my A game is w/a up the back release and I have med revs. I agree w/Mike when another bowlers talk  about their skid flip balls I look at their profiles, because I know I can't get that unless the backends are very dry. But what that ball might get me is some lenght with a controllable strong arc finish. Also I know what cores work for my game and will adjust the covers to my satisfaction. Try a Doom very versatile but talk to your pro shop to get the right layout for you it's a strong ball.

The last symmetric pearl I had was Dirty Bomb (3 3/8), and that was snappy for me. I really don't remember why I got rid of it, but I would like another ball reaction like that.

IN that case...why not a Doom? It's at a decent enough price and when it hits pins fall down, which is the whole idea. You might just try one and see what happens.

I don't know if you will get the skid flip reaction because of your low revs.  What I do know is the Doom is a great ball that gives a strong but controllable move on the back end.  Of course a lot of this is due to drill layout and surface prep not to mention the bowlers release.  Then you also have to take into account the lanes.

For me I prefer to have the skid flip reaction when i'm playing a real deep line.  When I play more straight then I prefer the ball to arc.  However with the Doom I always see a skid flip reaction when the ball is in box condition.  I have a Doom that's drilled stacked leverage and polished with ebonites matte polish.  This Doom gives me less flip and more of a strong arc type reaction which I really like.

If your thinking about getting the Doom then do it.  This ball is awesome to say the least.

Any suggestions on a drilling then? I was thinking to just lay it out 3 3/8. I don't have anything else drilled that way.

I would go for it then.  I have two of my Dooms drilled with the pins leverage.  I have a good amount of hand and the balls react great for me.  I'm able to keep my ball speed high with that layout.

Read my review of the Doom on the ball reviews section on this site.

Also check out my profile tis may help you decide on a layout.

I'm working on that bud.  I'm shopping for a camcorder.  I wanted to buy one this week but will probably wait until next week so I can have a little more money to spend on one.  I really want to use a camcorder to help my game.

I will take some pics of my 4 Dooms tomorrow and will get a vid made some time next week when I get my camcorder.
