Black Widow and clear grips
« on: November 06, 2006, 04:44:32 PM »
I loveee the BW. I got two drilled, one for med-oil, and other for med-dry.
I am getting another one in couple days, $109 free shipping, cannot beat that. I will drill it for med-heavy condition.

I use the clear finger tips and dark color slug, so I can’t see the color of the grips going down the lane. Just wondering what you think? Is this a good/bad habit?

Thanks

This year I have switched to color matching slugs and clear grips, just for that reason.   I don't want to see the grips.   I want to see ball motion, not the fingers rotating around the ball.

Yep, I think he was serious.

What ever flips your switch. I have white inserts in my No Mercy and putting yellow in the Black Widow, but that's just me, to each his own.

Hmmmm.....I use white inserts and appreciate the tracer effect they give when judging ball reaction.

My ball driller recommends and I prefer, using a contrasting color for grips/slugs simply for easier viewing of a balls reaction on the lanes. But to each his own....

I HATE being able to see the grips when I roll the ball...or any unnecessary plug spots that stick out like a sore thumb...the Saga I have belonged to a buddy of mine, when he plugged it...he used yellow plug for the fingers and it looked God awful...I was kind of happy it cracked out eventually...but...to the matter at hand...I see it as a personal choice...I don't believe there is any right or wrong answer to seeing the grips or not

I like my Awesome Hook with the HUGE yellow label and yellow slug!  Balls like that just look like they rev more.

In general I utilize black grips and a red thumb slug for the same reasons...don't like seeing all the color spinning around.  The last time that I utilized a contrasting color on a ball was the Tour Power since it couldn't see anyting spinning on the ball so I went with an orange slug.  Heck, I've gone as far as to black out some of the logos on balls as they were "distracting" to me (for lack of a better word) as the ball went down the lane.

Ya it's weird...

As I stated before I don't like seeing the grips or slugs, because I want to read the Ball motion on the lane.

I don't want to see how many times the fingers go around, or when the ball starts to flare, or which hole gets close to my axis down the lane.

I want to read the true ball reaction.   Now, back in the day I used to use the brightest colors possible, because I wanted to see how cool the ball looked revving down the lane.   Well, later I learned that is not the important part, but how the ball actually moves on the lane, and now I don't want to mis-read finger grip movement, for ball motion.

Hey, to each their own......

Personally, I also do not like seeing the grips in the ball.  All my balls have black custom slugs and black grips. Seein the grips is just one more thing to have to think about. My buddy gets a handful at the bottom, and his yellow grips put on a show.  But agreed, your the only one that knows whats best for you!!

Check next time and see what tour players use.  I think you'll find it interesting for the most part.

I am glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like to see the grip going down the lane. When I get the No Mercey next month, I am going to use black marker to cover up the logo ..

I also use black grips and slug...though not because I don't want to see the fingertips in rotation (only a slight part of the equation) but because i feel I get more rotation with black fingertips. The white ones feel all mushy, no matter how tight I have them. Meh glad it's not just me
