Black Widow drilling suggestions
« on: January 29, 2007, 03:00:01 AM »
I am a med rev med speed (16 - 16.5) bowler looking for a recommended layout for medium to moderately heavy oil conditions.  I typically throw from 18 out to 6 on dry lane conditions with my Hammer Vibe Blue, but when the patterns are heavier I don't get the bite I need at the backend and need a ball suited better for oil

I am purchasing a BW this week and want to insure I get plenty of length with a nice snap into the pocket using a similar line.  My Vibe is set up with a modified High RG Length layout Pin directly under middle finger

I was thinking about utilizing a modified Strong Layout to help adjust for my medium speed....which is very similar to the layout on my vibe blue...

I suspect I will have to change my line to account for the break on the BW, but I want it to be as close to the Vibe (on dry) line that I currently play...

Look at the photos of my Black Widow in my signature. I throw the ball about the same way you do (med-high revs and med speed 15-17 mph). I got mine drilled with the #1 skid/flip layout.

Cool...thanks for the link to the pic....helps me get an idea....from the look, you are using layout #1 (pin above and between fingers) with CG on grip centerline

How has that been working for you under medium oil lane conditions

What line do you typically throw....

six pack

the hmb past 2 inches from the thumb did'nt work well for me,check my profile for pics.my widow has the hmb closer to the thumb and has a major backend move.I think it depends on lane conditions you want to use it for and revs.

wow....finally picked it up....

4" pin above and between fingers
CG 1.5" left of grip centerline
HMB slightly below and 2" right of thumbhole

Rolled it on a fresh oil pattern with OOB surface

Rolling 14 to 6 and was getting a nice clean break into the pocket.  I am a 140 average player (only been bowling in league for 5 months) and threw a 175 out of the box.

thank god I have a good spare ball with my Vibe...this bites a bit too much for my dreaded 10 pins....

thanks guys
