Black Widow Ghost surface change
« on: March 21, 2022, 10:09:51 PM »
I was just wondering if anybody has messed with the surface on the Ghost. I just cant get a consistent reaction with the 1500 compound finish. Ball either jumps threw the face or it skids past my breakpoint. Thinking maybe a worn 1k pad to give the ball a different look. Looking to see if anybody else has changed surface on the ball.
                                           Thanks

Same issue im having but may be the drill i chose. But for this weekend, I'm going to be taking it down to 2000 and see if its more consistent.

Keep me posted.  Going to use mine next 2 nights with a worn 1 k pad. Everybody loves the ball but me. Pin above bridge for my drilling.

I knock the shine off anything with a polished finish.  A polished finish for me can be a great way to turn a easy condition into a sport condition.

The over/under on this ball is crazy. I got it as a Christmas gift, and it sits in my closet. Exact same issues as OP. I knocked the shine off the ball and that didn't help, so my PSO took it to 800 grit, with a light coat of polish on it and still meh.

I think it's just a ball I can't match up with.

I am surprised to hear so much hate for the factory finish.  Usually the factory compound finish that Brunswick uses is a home run.  Maybe the 1500 before the compound is what is making it squirrelly.

Perhaps they should have gone with 500/1000/compound at the factory, or even 500/compound to make it a little more consistent.

Humor me on this...

What layout did you use and what's your axis tilt?

As someone who has low tilt, I've learned that my regular Asym layout has to have the pin to pap in the 3.5" - 4.25" range. Asymms I've gone longer at 5" have been the most over/under for me because they want to pick up and roll forward. Too strong to stay out on a house shot, but also too forward to move in and hook it

I have one buddy who throws his at 18-19mph and loves it! Of course when you throw ANY ball that fast you're not gonna see obvious anomalies.

I was watching a team bowling against us on Tuesday night. Three of the guys had the Widow Ghost. Two of them could not control the ball! Over/under like crazy!! Mostly because of their natural slow speed. One guy got three strikes in the tenth frame when his ball went Brooklyn each time and just barely clipped the head pin......giving him these swisher strikes with all the pins going to the right. He was right handed.

This is not a ball that I can see myself using. As the lanes dry out it becomes even stronger hooking but carry goes down considerably.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

I did shoot 700 on the nose with the Ghost at 1K. Best set with the ball yet. Over under was gone. Maybe 1K is the answer for my game. No chance to play outside 10 when ball is this dull. Played between 15-20 at the arrows and ball was money.
