Hammer Jacked~ Surface Tweaking
« on: January 15, 2010, 11:02:28 PM »
After attending the Hammer Seminar this week, and learning about the coverstock prepping that they are using now, and dialing in different reactions on some of the newer balls out, I decided to put a ball to the spinner.

Lucky ball of choice: My Hammer Jacked- pin over bridge, CG kicked right.

The surface was currently at the factory 1000, and was just overall too much for our THS, but great for heavier oil. With the new Jigsaw Corner added to my arsenal for that spot, I wanted to test the cover tweaks on the Jacked.

Going with 500 abralon on 6 sides of the ball for 2 minutes, then 4000 abralon 6 sides of the ball for 2 minutes, I got to the factory 500/4000 they currently are using on the Jigsaw line.

All I can say is WOW. I threw it on our fresh THS on our Friday Night league. With this surface, the Jacked gets down the lane with ease, and saves an enormous amount of energy for the pins. I've never seen anything quite like it in drive thru the pocket. It makes a hard move at the pocket and drives throwing pins wild. I left a solid 4 pin/spare, and ringing 10 pin/spare to end with 258.

It's fun just to watch the Jacked roll and crush the pocket. As I got into the second game, and a little more snappy backend reaction, 8 pins, 9 pins, 4 pins, all started to pop up. Shot 222, but started to deal with single pins. It definitely wanted to turn sharper and drive harder.

Kept it out too long the last game before going to my Hot Sauce Pearl (best all around THS ball ever) and started dealing with splits, and spotty reaction. Overall I'm very impressed with the new found reaction, power and performance of the Jacked with the new surface change. I'll be looking for great things to come from it for sure.

So if you don't like your reaction with a current ball, or just want a different look, don't be afraid to "tinker" with these new covers. You'll be very surprised, and in my case extremely happy with the results.

I have a question. did they tell you to use 4000 abralon for 2 minutes?

just curious as that sounds like a lot of time.

Did you happen to throw this along side the Corner before messing with the surface? Just curious how different those two are..

The system is 500-500-4000-4000. Which is actually 56 seconds per part. So to "round" it to a minute, it equals 2 minutes @ 500 and 2 minutes @ 4000.

The OOB Jacked doesn't really compare to the Corner in overall hook or backend for me.  They have a total different look between them. The Jacked was more rolly and arcing, to where I have to play deeper with the Corner, and it has alot sharper backend/break point reaction to it.

For me, the Jacked fits in my arsenal alot better with the 500/4000 surface, and using the Corner for the heavier oil ball.

I took my Jacked to 2000 and now works great with our THS. If I ever find heavy oil, then I would take it back to the original 100.
