Purple Pearl or Black Urethane?
« on: March 13, 2018, 04:55:24 PM »
Our AMF house has decided that less (oil) is much better than more.  For that reason I'm looking into getting a Urethane ball to try and bowl on these conditions.  Right now the weakest ball I have is a Hammer Viral Hybrid and I can't get far enough left to use it.  It either comes up too high, crosses over or just rolls out.

I'm looking at the Purple Pearl and the Black Urethane.  My question is, would it be better to get the pearl and rough it up if it's not strong enough or get the black and polish it if it's too strong.  I have not used Urethane for a long time and am not seeing it in the senior league I'm bowling in, so I have no reference to go by.  Leaning towards the Pearl as I have slow speed and average+ revs.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'd lean towards the Purple Pearl.

In my opinion, the Purple Pearl is not quite as early, but it responds quicker to friction (enough to where it makes up the amount of the Black picking up early). However, I would lean towards the Blue Hammer remake if there isn't much head oil. Averaging around 240 on the fresh between league and some challenge pattern tournaments when I can throw it (which is often for my game).
League: Pitch Purple, Destiny Magenta
Testing: MVP
Interests: Black Widow, Proof Solid, Idol Pearl

Double that.

If the Viral hybrid makes you stand too deep, the Hammer urethanes will both hook far too early and too much. The Blue Hammer is closer to a resin/urethane blend, whereas the Purple and Black are both old fashioned true, VERY early rolling urethanes. The Blue Hammer is more akin to a very weak resin, with excellent length, very unlike the Purple or the Black. t has a more defined backend than either  the Purple or the Black, but nothing like most 100% resins.

Why urethane? Urethane needs head oil.

You must have missed the above conversation when the recommendation was for the Blue Hammer remake instead of the regular urethane
