Black Widow vs. Big Blue Solid
« on: October 10, 2006, 05:35:12 AM »
Can anyone compare these two?  I'm asking because they have basicly the same core.  Are the covers that much different?  I'm still using my BBS and like it a bunch.

How about the difference between the Black Widow Pearl and the Big Blue Pearl?  If the BWP is as good as the BBP, I'll DEFINATELY have one of those!!

How can anyone compare the Black Widow pearl to anything? There is no such ball out and will not be released anytome soon.. This according to Ron Hicklands comments this morning on another post here at br.com..

As fas as comparing the Big Blue solid to the Black Widow, thats like comparing a Mercedes to a Ford. The BBS was a piece of junk to most people. The cover had major issues. Hammer advertised it is as this hook monster and it was no where close to that. The BW is a great ball that is liked by most everyone that throws it. Sometimes its just a specific core and cover combo do not work well together for some people as I hated the Big Blue solid and pearl..

I have owned both and I actually liked the Blig Blue Solid a lot more.  It was by far a more controllable ball.  The Blig Blue was one ball I wished I would have kept.

I've had both, throw the Black Widow now and it has the same type of roll but the Widow is much more!!  More continous and a little more flip but the ball just seems to keep coming as advertised.  It's real continous and digs out the corners but versitle enough to hold and still carry or it can make up for a errant shot.  A Blue Blue on steriods i'd say is a good comparasion...

There is no comparison. One has flip blocks (Widow), the
other does not. One has a 4000 abralon cover, the other
500 grit sanded. One is particle (Big Blue), the other is
not. The Black Widow has more backend than the Big Blue.

Thanks for the input guys!!

I was stipulating (from other posts in the Hammer forum) about a Widow Pearl.  Sorry if I missed something, I don't stop in here as much as I used to, LOL.

Sounds like I NEED a Widow though.  I still like my BBS, but something that delivers more hook and flip but still controlable, sounds like it's for me.

How does the Widow compare to the Pain?

If you want something to be more controllable then the Pain is your ball.  Controllable and BW don't go hand in hand.  That's my opinion about the ball.

I feel there's no comparison between the Pain and BW.  The Pain is a better ball.  Again that's my opinion.

Haha, Chi loves his Raw Series...but I must object.  I find the BW to be controllable and not any less than the Pain.  I have both the Pain and BW and the BW (sanded to 1000) is first out of bag.  Though, the BW is less forgiving if you pull it...but overall, I like it better than my Pain and I am even looking to trade my Pain for something else.

I agree. I have the BW and Pain but have been using the BW primarily while holding onto 243 and 233 averages. The pain definitely handles carry down better, but overall I find the BW quite controllable and versatile.

I guess it all depends on your bowling style and where you bowl.  I bowl on tough lane conditions every week during the league season.  The Raw Hammer Pain has been ten times better on tougher patterns the the BW.

Now this is my opinion on the balls.  When playing on tough lane patterns I want control and carry.  I have found that the Pain is one of the best controllable balls with carry that I have had.  When that is too much the Doom comes in a takes over.

I tried the BW but couldn't get consistancy with it.  Plus it doesn't carry better than the Doom or Pain.  Not a chance.  That's what I have seen.  Now on THS things maybe different.

I agree with chitown. I'm not singling out the black widow I just don't like asymmetric balls. That being said. I had the pain drilled first, right out of the box lover it. I didn't have to do anything to the cover. Loved it. I had the black widow drilled. Right out of the box I liked it, on the condition I was using it on at the time (medium oil, no carrydown). On the same shot loved the pain. After it got spoty, I moved right and was still in the hole with the pain. The black widow didn't take to well to the change in conditions. Couldn't find a shot, had to bag it. The next day I had the cover on the black widow taken down to 1000. I went out to the same pair. Fresh medium oil, no carrydown. The ball was more predictable and when it came to making a move right after the oil moved, it was still playable. I still like the pain more. Gun slingers like the Black widow out of box. Strokers and tweeners like it after you tinker with it a little. 2cents
