Title: Black Widow ... WOW
Post by: ShermDawg on June 13, 2006, 11:49:32 AM
so i definitely punched up a Black Widow last night.... and went to bowl league, and right out of the box start with front 10... shoot 288... move on to my second game of 245... i then go front 4, 10 pin spare, and punch out for 812... out of the BOX

i was standing 35, throwing over 25 and pitching it out to 10.... this ball hooks like a beast, it was kinda dry but there was head oil to push it threw...

this ball gets down the lane, makes it turn and never stops

it has a 3-4 inch pin with 3 oz top....
i have it drilled 4 x 3 ... with the pin above my ring finger and the cg kicked over to the right... the MB is about 3 inches away from my thumb and there is a blance hole (3/4) down 2.5 inches deep , 4.5 inches out from my midline.... it has 1/2 ounce side weight and 7/8 finger weight... it is money!

i have a 470-480 rev rate and am a cranker.... it was my 15th 800 as a junior and i am happy to say it was with a HAMMER!!!!!

i also have a road hawg, pain raw hammer and the new blue vibe...

the pain is a great compliment to the road hawg in that has the same cover and a different core (simplified)... the pain gets down the lane better than the road hawg before it makes it move... it starts up earlier than the black widow though... it is a rolly ball with a controllable yet strong backend reaction... Hammer is doin it right

I have mine drilled close to yours but mb is alittle weaker than yours, i threw it side by side with the following balls:

Hammer Black Widow drilled 4 1/4 x 4 with no weight hole my new standard drilling, ball gets through heads better and retains energy for the backend.

Action drilled 6 x 3 box finish almost looks lefty
16 lb Big One same drilling as  my Black Widow
Hammer Pain same drilling as my Black Widow
The One same drilling as the Black Widow
Legends Big Bang in 15 lb loved the 16 lb so much had to get a 15lb same drilling as the widow

Anyway the Widow is earlier than The One buts has easily as much backend and can handle more oil upfront. Ball takes being spun or up the back with hand positions changes well, i could belly this ball allday long on medium/heavy oil. I could also pipe this ball up the 3 board and play a more direct shot with it, out of the balls listed which were all brand new that day it was my favorite right off the back. The new violent reactive is a very nice working cover it reminds of the first vicious reactive when it first was released, it over powers the backend and comes off the breakpoint with authority.

Like said before the pain is very rolly not as good of core cover matchup as the road hawg is too this cover juiced reactive. Pain is good ball dont get me wrong but wait for the road hawgs to closeout for the same price. I am going to shine my pain up to see if might be a nice stronger doom.

Okay Mason, so you're better than me. Whoop-dee-doo.

BTW, are all 22 3's and 15 8's sanctioned?

That's great shooting.  How's the Black Widow compare to the Doom?

thanks for the comment to update the profile... it was definitely needed... it is updated now with the correct 300's and 800's and the correct comments about Hammer and Ebonite being > others

and compared to the doom.... the doom does not even come close in overall hook... i cant see the black widow not moving on a lane condition regardless of what it is... i know that tony reyes won the regional this past weekend with the widow on pattern 5... and i heard they were juicy...

the doom is definitely more of a medium oil ball as compared to the widow... the widow is for heavier conditions or for swinging the lane on lighter conditions...

GO HAMMER!

So the Black Widow could be ones heavy oil ball that back ends?

My arsenal is pretty much set for the year but it's hard to not want to try this ball or the pain.

If you want to use the Black Widow on heavy volume, suggest you change the surface to 1000.  The 4000 out of box finish is way too smooth

I agree with DanR.. In box finish (4000 abralon) the Black Widow will not be good for heavy oil. I would suggest 1000 or maybe 500 abralon.
