Blue Vibe and its coverstock
« on: May 23, 2008, 02:14:45 PM »
A friend just bought one and compared it to his beloved (and I don't use that word lightly!) Storm Agent, the original. He says his BV hooks more than his Agent, but admits the Agent is at least a year old, yet he has maintained it religiously.  So chalk yet another convert up to the Blue Vibe.

Buddies is clearing them out and I am so tempted.

Regarding the Blue's even reacting ball path, so much so that many think it's more a polished solid than a pearl,
I saw this note regarding the Cut Throat coverstock on the Blue Vibe, in Hammer's "Product Technical Information", they say that it's a particle pearl,
"Hammer's Cut-Throat coverstock features an aggressive base reactive with particle and pearl additives."
Since the BV is the only Hammer with the Cut Throat coverstock, this line must be referring to the Blue Vibe.

(This is an e-mail I made to Hammer bowling and the follow-up from the company.)

Hi,

On the Ball Reviews website there has been a lot of discussion on the Blue Vibe and its versatility. Many claim that when the surface is taken down it can be used on much heavier patterns than what it's intended for.

The question nobody can agree on is whether it's a solid ball or pearlized. I have an older one and it has no phasing or pearl look at all. I also just picked up a newer model and it definitely looks like a pearl.  It's a great ball but which one is it? Thanks for your time.

Hi,

Thanks for your question about Hammer product. Despite its appearance, the Blue Vibe uses a solid reactive coverstock. Thanks for your support!

No problem, after the numerous discussions on this site and seeing the difference in person of how the Blue Vibes can look, I just thought maybe we should find out for sure.

Charlest, The BV is a very versatile ball.  There's not many that can compete with it's versatility.

In it's box surface the BV will skate on longer, heavier oil. I've been on longer heavier patterns where my box surface BV would just skate right thru the break point and hardly hook.   However, when dulled to a lower grit, the ball is an entirely different animal!  The BV can handle longer heavier oil with ease when dulled to a lower grit.

Charlest, I had 2 BV's drilled identical.  Both balls had the pin above the bridge 5.5" from pap, CG kicked right close to 1oz and no balance holes.  The only difference between the two balls were the cover preps.  One of my BV's was box and the other was 1000 grit.  Night and day difference when it came to oil handling.  Just amazing how much stronger the dull vibe was on heavier oil.

Aside from it's versatility, the BV also packs a punch.  The ball carry's really well!  Even dulled the ball doesn't seem to lose energy as the lanes break down like some of the other duller surface bowling balls.

Reaction:  The BV reminds me a lot of the NM (original) in that it's strong in the mid-lane but has tremendous recovery on the back end.  The reaction is a cross between flip and arc which reminds me of the NM and BWS.

Charlest, the BV is one of the best ball purchases i've ever made.  It's a shame this ball is being discontinued!  It's a shame I didn't try this ball when it first came out!
