Black Widow Pearl help!!
« on: July 12, 2007, 05:08:20 PM »
I been trying to use my black widow pearl. I like this ball, but i can't seem to grasp it.
I have about a 17 mph speed with med-hi rev. the ball is drill to my pap  which is 4 1/2.

First time out, OOB, it was too much backend for the way i like to throw it. it looked nice when i shot it around the 3rd arrow, but im more comfortable playing around the 2nd arrow. But still too much backend so i took it down to 2000 polish and also 1000 polish.
I really like the reaction from the 1000 grit but it wasn't as consistence as i wanted to be. If i hit my mark perfectly it, it would strike of course, but im not that great and will make mistakes. But instead of a lucky strike or close to pocket. the back point would be way off and hit way off. This is also on a THS too. I understand it is the lanes and how it is read, but is there some surface condition or such that it would make it more consistence and fit my game better.

Thank you for taking your time to read this and i appreciated any tips or advice.
I know i didn't give that much info about my style and stuff, but general tip or  things i could try out would be fine.
Thanks again

Hey! I made it all the way to the gutter. Shouldn't I get like 20 points or something?

i used the bow tie surfacing method on the ball giving it a more arc shape den the long n snap. I don't know if that make a difference on the reaction of the ball.

You already answered your own question.  The ball and the lanes dictate where to play, not your comfort zone.  Aggressive balls with lots of back end need to be given room to react.  You'll probably have to keep moving left until the ball gets enough head oil.  As you mentioned, you can add some surface (with or without polish).  That will make the ball read earlier, so you'll get more of an easy to control arc as opposed to the big snap at the end of the pattern.

yeh i see your point, but i surfaced it so i can bowl in my comfort zone with the arc shape. But it is still inconsistence even if i move to the 3rd arrow. i have no problem adjusting my style, but the ball reaction way off unless i hit the mark perfectly. This is also on THS too. I'm still working on my game so i'm not able to hit it perfect everytime, not yet any ways.

I just tried some open games with my new BWP and was struggling with it.  I mean, really struggling, like so bad that my 10 year old son beat me in the second game.  I finally figured out in the 4th game that I need to speed it up a bit (I usually throw about 13-14mph)then that baby came to life.  5 strikes in a row and ended up 200.  One thing about the BWP is when that thing hits the pocket, CRASH, talk about hard hitting!  My problem is just finding the pocket!

It looks like hook in the box is backfiring for some people.

Some bowling balls are hard to control at the break point.  Sometimes a ball like this can be controlled with a particular layout and or cover prep.  Since your having problems controlling this ball, I would adjust the cover.

Pick up a bottle of Ebonites Matte Polish.  If you have your own ball spinner apply it yourself.  If not, then bring the bottle with you to the pro shop and have them do it.  The best way to apply this polish is to sand the ball to 1000 grit and apply the polish.  This should help in controlling the ball.

This matte polish works great.

The layout is fine, i think. I am able to control better than before after some surface prepping. But I get left with pin even after a nice pocket shot. Last night, i left the 8 pin (I'm LH) 4 times in a row, and i adjusted according everytime. Maybe it's hitting to hard? who knows. I like the ball, but it doesn't give me the games i want.

I got ebonite factory finsh and couple other brands of polish, but matte isn't one of them. Don't know if i wanna buy another polish right now.
