Green pad an No mercy
« on: January 30, 2007, 02:11:52 AM »
Ok Ive got a No mercy, I read people talking about using a green pad on the no mercy an didnt know if they meant a green kitchen pad or is there one from the pro-shop?  Also If I use the green pad what reaction will this give me an can I do it by hand?

Thanks

Joe,

The thing to remember about sanding or using abralon is to know the basic premise of ball surface.  The lower the grit, the more surface the ball will have.  So, if you are wanting the ball to grab the lane and roll earlier, then you want to go for a lower grit.  If you have a flood, then I would go 500 (just like the Infinite One oob).  If you have a good MED/Heavy, then go for around 1000 or so.  The lighter the condition, the shinier you want the ball and the less surface you want so that the ball can get down the lane without burning off all energy it may have.  More oil calls for more surface and vice versa.  Of course this is only basic and depends on how you throw the ball (speed, tilt, rotation, etc).  For basic cleaning, I would go 1000, 2000, 4000 in order to get dirt and bring you back to whatever surface you are looking for.

Not sure but wallshot said No mercy was 4000 oob.  My league has Fresh oil its a morning league an most always MED/Heavy oil.  Is there a grit that I would mess the ball up with?  It seems like the oil in the lane will make it shine again?  Is that correct?

Thanks
Joe

Joe,

There really is no grit that will mess up the ball onless you go FAR too low on the grit of sandpaper.  As long as you do not go beyond 220 as the lowest grit then you should be okay.  Even then you do not push hard, you just need to hit the surface as easily as possible.  The No Mercy is 4000 oob, but you would want to go lower (to around 1000) to get rid of dirt and marks, and then go back up to what you want the surface to be.  If you like the reaction that you got out of the box, then go back with it.  If you have good oil and fresh backends, then 4000 would be ideal.  If you need it to roll a little earlier, then go to 2000 or 1000 depending on what you are looking for.  As for shine, to lower the grit you go the more maintenance it will require granted that more surface means more oil absorption.  Going back to 4000 will cause you to have less maintenance, but it may or may not be what you are looking for.

Do I need to buy 1000 grit to clean.
Then hit it with 2000 or 4000 to bring it back to where I need it, after I clean it?

That is what I would do if I wanted to bring back alot more reaction.  You could even go lower and go all the way up depending on how clean you want it to be.  If you are just wanting quick cleaning, you could just go to 2000 and back to 4000.  Hope I've been able to help, but I have an hour drive before league so I'm outta here.  Any more questions, feel free to send me a message and I will try to check later tonight when I return.
