This usually happens when there is no bevel put on the sharp edges of the holes. Usually if when drilled you hit the edge with a sander you can avoid the cracking.

There's no way to tell without a professional to examine it. Yes, the driller can do lots of little things wrong that could cause that but don't convict him without evidence. Take it back to where you bought it and have them file a claim with Hammer or the distributor. That's the normal procedure.

Most bowling manufacturers will stand behind their product and replace it as long as they see no evidence of something outside their control (like putting the pin too close to a hole).

Cracking around drilled holes has been attributed to several factors. The ones that come to mind are:

1. Dull drill bits or drilling too fast.  This causes the material to heat up and it has been said that if it gets too hot, the material can become more brittle.

2. Little or no bevel of the holes.  All materials will have a surface tension that is broken by any indentations, scars, or holes in the material.  When you drill the hole, the surface tension is altered and the bevel helps to spread it around and down the hole instead of it focusing on the sharp edge.

3. Superglue has been said to react with and change the molecular chemistry of some, if not all, modern coverstocks, making them more brittle and subject to cracking.

It could be any of these, none of these, or any combination of these.  If they are just small stress fractures that follow the contours of the holes, they may never get any worse.  I had an old original firestorm that had this type cracking.  I had it for 6-7 years and they never got any worse or cracked out.
