Black Widow Venom - Drilling
« on: September 27, 2008, 10:15:56 AM »
Hey everyone! I'm looking to purchase a BWV in the very near future. Possibly next week.

So I had a question about drilling: If I were to drill this ball, straight up, 1:30 label, with the MB LEFT of the thumb, what reaction should I expect? The BWV has a strong MB, so i'm not sure of the effect it might have. I do also know how easily the BWV gets down the lane with it's pearl cover, and how much this baby turns the corner. All this is taken into consideration. With my arsenal I have now (in my profile), I know how i'd fit this ball.

Any comments or suggestions?

Thank you!

BTW, my PAP is 5 3/8ths over by 0 up and down.

I have one for sale with the pin directly above the bridge and its one of the best rolling hammers I have ever had. I was hesitant to use this drilling as I am normally a very high tracker, but it works fine for me..

jarhead, straight from Jeff Ussery, this ball is indeed a polished pearl cover.

jkiser, thanks for the comment! This ball truly is amazing, and I cannot wait to get one.

I'm thinking that since the ball is built to be long/strong, a label layout with the MB left of thumb should work good enough. I'd like some comments on it, though.

Thanks in advance!

The cover has built in length.  Some people have made the mistake of drilling it to go long and it would skate through the break point.  I drilled mine pin under and love it.  I think it's alot like the Twisted Fury was.  People that drilled it for length hated it but they never realized the cover was super long to begin with.  Oh and if this helps I'm a fairly high tracker with probably 17mph speed and 350ish rev rate.

Here's a pic, sorry it's bad I was too lazy to look for the camera so I used my phone.

I actually thought it was a solid cover as well.  I have never heard of a pearl advertised for medium-heavy lanes.  Doesn't matter much to me cause I love the ball anyway but if that is the case it's one hella strong pearl.

kidjete, thanks for the comments! The alternative layout for me would be going pin under ring, MB swung out way towards my VAL. What you said about the Venom having built in length and backend is correct, and that's why I want to drill it 1:30 label with the MB left of thumb. Does anybody have a guess how that'd roll?
