Violet 3-D Offset R.I.P.
« on: December 25, 2004, 01:57:29 PM »
It is with great remorse that I mark the passing of my favorite ball to date....a 3 year old Violet 3-D Offset.  I purchased this ball NIB from a top seller here and had my best game and series with it last year. Now it has succumbed to core separation and is not the able-bodied warrior it once was.
My Pro Shop owner informed me that he had a bad batch of these balls some years back that all ended up having the same defect. Many had core problems as they sat on his shelf. I was wondering if anyone else in this forum has had similar experiences with this ball and how common is this problem with other balls in general?
I had noticed a decrease in carry with this ball lately and was planning on having it redrilled more agressively. Looking into the ball's current weight hole, it is obvious to see that the core had separated and was no longer in alignment.
It's a bad pun but my 3-D Offset really is offset now. My remorse was short-lived as I immediately purchased a new ball to take its place. Alas, poor 3-D - I knew him well.

Shhhh on the 3D MAxxx, Shhhhh....

If things go right, next week I should fall into a NIB Truck, 3D offset Violet Pearl and Nasty Nail Xtreme or Sling Blade.  Nothing like classic faball to fill the holes in the new hammer line!

My condolences. I've heard the Sledgehammer line had a similar problem when they first came out, but not the 3-D line. I've had about every one of the 3-D's except the Super Hook and Tour models, all of them great balls. Never had one of the early 3-D balls however. I took off a few years from bowling during that timeframe, but now I'm back, balls deep, literally! Got the Hammer arsenal up to 12 and still counting. Too many good balls, not enough time... G knows what I'm talking about! So what did you end up replacing the Violet with? I've heard that Violet Gargoyle looks alot like the High Rev as far as appearance goes.

My salute to the 3d Violet 3-d Offset as well.   My brother gave me his old one to get me started back in bowling something a little more up to date, and I was so taken with it I went out and got another used low-mileage one as a back-up!!
G_Thing has it right on the nose with his comment!!!!!
