Here here.....a lot of the companies seem to be going to this trend of just giving us a coverstock name, and not a type.  Ebonite's One series, Hammer's latest balls, and even some by other manufacturers are getting into this rather frustrating trend.  Cool names for the covers is great, but a little more info would really help us make good decisions on purchases.

Well, the Coverstocks on the Road Hawg, Pain, and Black Widow are all variations of the coverstock on the highly popular The One series of bowling balls. They arent called the GB or GBV because thats Ebonites name, so Hammer gave it their own name,

BowlerKid,

The coverstock on the Road Hawg and Pain are both Hammer's Juiced reactive coverstock, while they may have similar characteristics to GB, I wouldn't necessarily say they are variations on it.  Though Ebonite does own Hammer, I'm under the impression that they do use different coverstocks, I wouldn't think there is much material sharing going on as they are, still technically two separate companies.

As for the Black Widow, I belive that one is the Violent Reactive coverstock, which I though was a new formulation for Hammer (with the HawgZilla having Ultra-Violent Reactive if i remember correctly...).  I again wouldn't think there would be any relation to GB or GBV, though it would be easy to assume so.

It is my understanding working closely with an ebonite staffer, that up until the release of the new GB covers hammer and ebonite did use different covers completely.  However with the success of the new covers in the GB and GBV family hammer is now using the same covers as ebonite.  Not sure if any variations I think same exact covers just a different name.  These new covers are so good they can't help but to use them on hammer balls too.  The black widow from what I have been told is the orig gb 10.7 and I am guessing the hawg zilla is either 11.2 or 12.1

This comes up often enough, and usually an official hammer rep gives us the skinny.  Maybe they'll show up this time, too.
