so what if I did'nt like the widow?
« on: June 25, 2007, 02:06:40 PM »
would I like the pearl? my widow was drilled skid/flip and on a fresh shot it went too long and turned big time really late, like @ 55'.when the shot dried out it worked good for a few frames but then became too strong up front.it was a fun ball but not consistant for me.
now I'm thinking of trying the pearl but with a pin under drilling for second/third game ball, any thoughts?

I owned 2 BW's.  I bought a used one and kept the same layout that my friend had on it.  This ball just didn't work well.  It hit really weak and was not very strong on the back end.  The ball had a real weak layout on it so what did I expect? lol

I bought a NIB Widow solid and had the pin above the bridge(5.5" from my pap) and MB just right of thumb.  This ball was pretty good when there was a defined hook spot.  I was able to get a very strong reaction and good pin carry.  A much better ball than my first.  The only problem I had with this ball was on more difficult patterns.  It was just too strong on the back end for me to use on these patterns.  I feel another layout would have made the ball a lot better on the tougher patterns.

I think the pearl is worth trying.  Just keep in mind that it's not a fresh oil ball.  It's the type of ball that needs to be used when a hook spot develops.  a

I would use a different layout than you had on your BW solid.  I would use a pin down layout.  This will get some of the snappiness out of the reaction and make it more predictable.

I had 2 of the BW solids drilled differently and didn't like the reaction of either one of them.. I drilled up the BWP last week and love it..

Every ball is different and some will fit into your game and some won't.. Pearls normally work better for me than solids..

I say go for it.. Give the BWP a try..

Instead of wondering if you'd like a ball, make up your mind which ball reaction you want to achieve on which given condition, and chose a mathcing ball and an according drill.

Think. Then buy a ball. Or know exactly what to do with it.

With your description above, I am pretty sure that the answer will be: no.
