Red or Blue Backlash?
« on: August 22, 2010, 07:20:00 AM »
Well after I got my Backlash drilled up it felt heavier than my other stuff eventhough the guy I bought it from off of here told me it was 15lbs. It ended up being an ounce or two under 16 . I had the red one and I noticed it to be a little jumpy. Had it drilled 4 1/2 from my PAP with OOB surface which put the pin rigth under the bridge. Since I will have to get a new one I was thinking of seeing how the Blue Backlash is. Any idea what the comparison is between the two? Looking for a ball to play straight up the outside with on the THS I bowl on. 42ft on wood lanes.

I just bought a red backlash, and it feels real heavy compared to my other balls. It weighed up after drilling at 15.1. My Track 607A weighs 14.15 and feels weight lighter.....My 715 weighed 14.15 and also feels very heavy but not as heavy as the Backlash.....could it be the shape of the weight block?
I bowled on some burnt lanes today practicing and it was hard, yet smooth off the spot, way smoother than my 607A. I liked it and it will fit my arsenal well.

For wood i'd go with the smoother overall piece, which would be the blue backlash.

I'm looking at my first reactive ball following a long layoff from the sport.  Currently using an original (30-year-old) AMF Angle - the original urethane ball, and want something that will allow me to experience the advantages of a reactive cover, that won't be a big shock coming from urethane.  I was considering the two Backlash models from Hammer as well as the Tropical Storm.

Style-wise : stroker, low revs, ball speed around 14-15 mph.

I'd suspect that was because of the amount and length of oil on the lanes.
Realize that the Red/Purple has a different coverstock and a different surface preparation (2000 grit Abralon + Polish) that allows it to be used on light to medium-light oil, while the Blue/Silver's Coverstock is slightly earlier reacting with an earlier surface preparation (4000 grit Abralon matte/dull), which allows it to handle medium-light to medium oil.

In the BTM review of these balls, the Red/Purple got a length of 17 in stock form, while the Blue/Silver got a length rating of 14 in stock form. That's a fairly large difference. There's be less difference if they had the same surface but they'd still be different.

the red backlash is 2000 plus polish OOB

but your statement still applies

icewall, I stand corrected. Thanks. Edited original response for correctness.

Also now I know I can actually make my Backlash handle even less oil.
(Just rechecked the BTM review of the Red/Purple. That's where I got the "4000 + polish".  I edited that also.)
