Jigsaw Corner after one 3 game set = Filthy!
« on: March 29, 2010, 01:42:52 PM »
I just got my Jigsaw Corner drilled Sunday and used it tonight on our 45' house shot and this thing is dirty!  I use a microfiber towel dampened with Remedy Rx to wipe down the ball between every shot and just finished cleaning it on my spinner with Clean 'N Dull.  However, the white swirls on the ball are still noticably dirty.  Am I expecting too much after a cleaning of the JC?  Is this why most ball companies shy away from coloring their equipment white?

Could Clean 'N Dull not be all that?  I've been using it for years.  But now, staring at this JC with its dirty white swirls, and with only 3 games on it has me wondering...

clean and dull really really works just use a light  grey schotch bright lightly use it to cover the surface of the ball with the c and d and wipe off when done

I've never had any issues with Clean & Dull either...though really stuborn belt marks still need a quick hit with Acetone.

Oh and Hammer didn't exactly pick the ball to be white, it all has to do with the coverstock formulation white is the color that it comes in from what I was told.

I have to agree, the Corner picks up more dirt then a Hoover vacuum. I have just used acetone to clean it and it comes back fine, have had no issues with dirt staying on the ball.

I thought acetone was detrimental to coverstocks.

I would guess overuse of acetone is a bad idea, but the bottom line is acetone removes everything off of the cover.  I use it sparingly, but it is amazing.

It is basically illegal (it changes the coverstock's properties), but if you want a thorough cleaning, it is O.K. for infrequent use outside of league and tournament.
I would not use it often, though, because it deprives the coverstock off of its softeners - the shell may become brittle with frequent use.

The white in the Jigsaw did not attract the dirt. It is not a magnet for dirt. It only allows you to see the dirt that is ALWAYS on the lanes where you bowl. If you think your black ball did not pick up that dirt, boy! are you wrong. The dirt is there and your balls, along with everyone else''s who bowls there, are picking it up.

If Clean and Dull cannot remove the dirt, it has been ground into and scratched into the resin.

Acetone will not remove the dirt. It will partially dissolve the resin into which the dirt has been ground. It will look "pretty" once again, but you will have slightly changed the surface. I would not recommend using acetone JUST to make the ball look pretty again.

An occasional swipe with acetone will not harm the ball. Using acetone to remove glue or really bad rubber marks from broken down belts is fine, as far as I am concerned. Constant rubbing with acetone will make larger changes to the ball''s surface. Not immediately, but over time this will have a cumulative effect. This is why the basic test by the ABC/USBC is laying a soaked cloth on the ball for 15 - 30 minutes.
