Step down from Infection?
« on: May 29, 2011, 07:13:52 AM »
I have been very happy with the performance of my Infection drilled 60x5-1/2x75 with a P3 weighthole. This ball has been the first ball out of my bag each and every time I bowl. However the ball is limited to when I can get the aggressive coverstock through the heads.

What Hammer ball would be the best ball to drill up with the same layout but be a step down in terms of aggressiveness on the back 1/2 of the lane?

I have a Blue/Silver Backlash and a Midnight Vibe both drilled 60x4x60 with a P2 hole and P3 hole respectively. I like the reaction but I do not get the same "warm and fuzzy" feeling I do with the Infection.

I have a ton of options (both current and discontinued)....

Any opinions?

Have you tried a Brawl or Grind for that spot Doug? I'm sure with some shine or a pretty fine finish on the cover and a similar layout you could get a nice step down ball from the Infection.

I just picked up a used Grind and I have a NIB Brawl sitting here....I just figured they were going to be too strong.

I have picked up a lot of stuff lately....ok I am a ball whore.....but at least I have sold off a bunch of Lane 1 stuff :-)

Grind, Jigsaw Corner, Venom, Midnite Vibe (x2), Onyx Vibe,  3-D Offset Pearl, Plague, Trap, Pain, No Mercy, Hawgzilla, Sting, Black Hammer, Pink Hammer, Blue Pearl Nail.....

Would the new Grape Vibe drilled the same and dulled to 2000 fit the bill or maybe the Onyx I picked up?

The grape would give you more angularity regardless of the drilling. The Onyx Vibe would probably be a very good fit, mine was an awesome control piece that had just enough backend to carry sufficiently.

 Doug,

I would suggest the new Epidemic which is about 2 feet longer and more angular for me with the same exact drill pattern. The Grind & Brawl will be a little more rolly and will not give you the angularity that you are looking for.

The new Grape Vibe is longer than the Oynx & stronger then the Midnight (in between) so that might work with a little stronger drill pattern than what you have in the Infection.

Let me know if this helps or if you have any further questions.

The new Epidemic will be the ball for you to get when it is released. It is a true pearl so it will be cleaner in the front part of the lane when the Infection is too much. In the meantime you could go with another Infection, put a little shine on it and drill it a bit weaker. Other option would be a Burn if you have one of them laying around.
