Greetings Hammerheads... Here is a short review of the new Absolut Curve that will be released next week. Please let me know if you have any questions on this ball or any other Hammer products.

LANE CONDITION
Lane Patterns Used: 39' House Shot, USBC Singles/Double Pattern, & 2013 ITC Sectional Singles Pattern (43'), Kegel Broadway Pattern
Ball Layout: 50 x 4 1/2 x 30
COMMENTS
Likes: When I heard about a lot of great things about this new “Fat Max†core with a new coverstock from the Hammer test team after the info was released and was looking forward to throwing this ball to see what seeing what this ball was all about. All I can say is WOW – amazing looking & rolling ball going down the lane. This new core/cover combo really works well together by giving this ball easy length through the front part of the lane and with a very strong continuous backend motion that DOES NOT stop. No matter how much I kept moving in with this ball, this ball really turns the corner really well. The name says it all… Absolut CURVE. For me this ball compliments the Arson Hybrid where it is cleaner & more backend than the Arson Hybrid.
Dislikes: Needs to be used on the medium to medium heavier patterns. With the layout on this ball, it was a little too much ball with the backend motion for the patterns I was bowling on. This is a very strong layout of me, so it was a little sensitive to the patterns which I played on the fresh, but after a little surface adjustment (knocking off the polish) I was able to use this ball on the fresher patterns with ease.
I think this ball will be great ball for the majority of bowlers that need a ball to get through the front part of the lane & really turn the corner when the transition has forced them left of their comfort zone. This is a little different motion that we have seen & I feel was missing in the Hammer brand. BIG BACKEND motion that DOES NOT stop – really continues through the pin deck!
The release date for this ball is July 16th, so make sure you place your pre-order through your local pro shop.

How do you compare it to the First Blood ? I know it is a different beast but what differences do you see ?

For me, the Absolut is more continuous in the backend than the First Blood. I like the Absolut motion more than the First Blood. Both are great pieces in the Hammer arsenal. Hope this helps!

i punched 1 up on Sun for a tourn on the bear pattern 41ft flat. pin above & in middle of bridge & cg in palm, ball was very strong in the back end. even on that pattern it was hard to keep the ball in the pocket. need to see what it does on a fresh house shot
so far looks good, unlike Hammer's last few releases.

I decided to come back to Hammer this year, ordered this one lastnight won't get to throw it until the 4th of Aug when I get home but from all that has been written sounds like a winner we"ll see

Have mine drilled 65x4.5x35, it has a very continuous motion
Am on various house shots right now with a medium sport starting soon
this ball fits between my low flare and my 505t
clean through the fronts and very arcing,continuous through the pins

Simply love the Absolut Curve!!!! I had my ball surface adjusted to 2000 Abralon solid and pin above between my finger and ring finger. Smooth, extra needed length and plenty of backend--finds it way to the pocket hard! Especially on a THS lane...it is my benchmark ball and first one out of the bag.

What surface do you have on your ball, Dave? Congrats on the 300 game with Hammer Absolut Curve! Will post my results after tomorrow night league play. To be continued...

Is the reason the drilling creates too much backend for you the stronger or closer pin to PAP or just the height of the pin? I noted your post on scuffing the surface to reduce the backend.
What would you have done differently for slightly lighter patterns for you if you did It again or drilled a second one?

Lucky.... I actually have 3 of these in my arsenal and love all of them. It's sad to say that this ball has replaced my Arson & Arson Hybrid which I thought I would never replace them in my bag... This ball is THAT good.
In regards to your questions... My 1st Curve is drilled a little stronger that what I usually drill my balls, so I wanted to have something that is stronger overall... but I found that the polished surface was a little too much length & too responsive of the friction, so that is why I played with the surface a bit to smooth out the response.
I drilled the 2nd Curve with a pin down to provide me a smoother & earlier motion for some of the medium-heavier patterns that I see in tournaments (have not thrown this in league at all).
The 3rd Curve is drilled weaker (65 x 5 1/2 x 30) to give me more length and big backend motion for the medium-drier patterns... but the Fat Max core is still too strong to use on the drier patterns... I use this ball quite often when I need more length & more angle in the backends.... This ball might now be replaced with the new Black Widow Assassin (amazing ball).
Hammer has other options for the drier lanes - Cobalt Vibe, Spike, Nail, and Blue Hammer...

By strong do you mean a shorter pin to pap.
Or pin up tends to create more or too much reaction?

Stronger = closer to PAP, correct...
Pin Up, just delays the reaction and harder off the spot down the lane, but with me drilling the pin closer to the PAP, created a stronger overall motion on my 1st Curve.
The longer pin Curve (#3) goes longer and a little more angular down the lane.
