Title: Hammer Black Widow Red Legend Solid
Post by: Pocket Smasher on August 04, 2015, 11:04:03 AM
It came out today, who's getting it? I hope to get this ball but probably am going to wait until later in the year. Let us know if you plan on adding this ball to your arsenal and why or why not.

I have really enjoyed throwing the RL Solid as it has been a big part of my tournament arsenal in the last month. Strong rolling ball that does not quit. You will be impressed with this ball, but you definitely need head oil in order for it to work great.

I love hammer and their products, but stopped using them because their equipment / reaction just dies too fast for me to enjoy long enough. I hope whoever gets the solid loves it

Plowboy how much stronger is the RL solid than the assassin? I plan on joining the PBA league at a house a city over after football season. I think I will get the Solid then. At my local house I have a hard time throwing my assassin because of the lack of oil but at the other houses around here it is perfect for their house shots.

Now why does this remind me of the Fab Red/Red Pearl and Fab Blue/Blue Pearl days?  :D

I love this Ball! I agree with Plow, I like this ball better than my Paradox right now. This ball is so smooth and continuous and very predictable.  I have tried it at 500 all the way to 3000 and the ball is really impressive at every grit.

Recieved my Red Widow Solid last night, will have it punched out this weekend, going with the 5 1/2 pin to pap, should put pin in between the fingers, my favorite drilling is skid/snap. Will post my review on how it works for me.

Pocket... The RLS is about a good 6-7 boards stronger overall than the Assassin which is a skid/snap reaction... Where the RLS is more of a strong controllable ball motion that does not quit!  Perfect compliment if you need something for more oily patterns.

Could you give a comparison of the Red Legend Solid and the Bad Intentions?

The RLS has more backend continuation and a little cleaner thru the front part of the lane than the Bad Intentions

I 2nd Plowboy on the long continuous motion on the back.  Decent clearance thru the heads too.  Nice ball.

I am curious as to how different The RL Solid would be to an original Legend with same surface/drilling.

The Red Legend Solid is about 4-6 boards stronger overall than the original Legend with the same surface prep (2000) - I found it earlier and more continuous in the backends where the original Legend gets down the lane a little easier with the same motion! The RLS coverstock handles heavier volume of oil better than the original Legend at the same surface prep... Hope this helps!

If I put low flaring drills in the Legend lineup bc I like to play down and in most places, will I see much of a difference between the covers on a THS? Im starting to grow more towards low flare drillings so I can control pocket and be more consistent and I really liked the motions at the demo day even though they hooked too much I still liked overall ball motion and carry. So I guess what im asking, is it worth it to grab the RLS, Red Legend, Assasin, and the original Legend and just work with covers to get the separation?

Excellent feedback, thank you. How much of a difference would you say 2000 is from box finish for original legend? I have original legend at box, so I'm using that as my frame of reference here.

BOWLER SPECS
BALL WEIGHT: 14#
REV RATE: 435
BALL SPEED: 17.5
DUAL ANGLE LAYOUT: 75 x 5 3/8 x 30
PATTERN: 45’
PATTERN TYPE: Sport
BALL SURFACE: FACTORY
COMMENTS:
LIKES: Box finish, solid color, strong continuation.

DISLIKES: NONE!
OVERVIEW:
The big change with this ball is the cover stock, with this release having a solid reactive shell. The red Juiced cover stock is finished with a 2000 Abralon pad. This is by far the smoothest of the previous Widow releases, even though I feel it is less angular than the last 2 releases in BW line, this ball still provides a lot of down lane motion and a earlier read on med to heavy oil patterns. It was super easy to control pocket even as the pattern changed. Red legend solid will provide more total hook than the previous two Legends because of cover change and box finish. This is by far my favorite release in the line so far!
